Sep 3rd 2009 8:52AM I got excited when I saw the mention of a 42" version of the V10 series, then realized that the 42" model seems to be only available in Europe and the UK. Am I the only one that would like to see a 42" V10 become available in the US?

Sep 2nd 2009 8:36PM Tonight I figured out how to get Java 1.4.2 working with Safari under Snow Leopard.
1. Install Java 1.4.2 as outlined in the link above: http://wiki.oneswarm.org/index.php/OS_X_10.6_Snow_Leopard
2. Make sure that Java 1.4.2 is the first 32-bit application in the list. Under Java Preferences, my list reads:
Java SE 6 64-bit
J2SE 1.4.2 32-bit
Java SE 6 32-bit
3. Open Safari in 32-bit mode via the Get Info window for Safari. This is where I was getting screwed up. It finally occurred to me that Java 1.4.2 is a 32-bit application, but if Safari was opening in 64-bit mode, it wouldn't use the 32-bit Java apps.
Once I opened Safari in 32-bit mode, Safari was able to use Java 1.4.2.

Sep 2nd 2009 2:19PM I saw that, and tried it. i got Java 1.4.2 to appear in the Java Preferences pane, but I was unable to get Safari to use Java 1.4.2, even though I reordered the Java versions so that Java 1.4.2 was at the top. Safari kept using Java 1.6 as its Java environment.

Aug 31st 2009 7:48AM The major thing that Snow Leopard broke for me is a Java issue. I have some applications that depend on Java 1.4.2 to work. Under OS X 10.5, I would use Java Preferences when needed to turn this on.
Snow Leopard took this away. The only Java version installed is Java SE 6.

Jul 20th 2009 8:51PM This sort of analysis is faulty. The question isn't really whether if paying an extra, say, $169 for AppleCare in the case of a mid-range 24" iMac, for example, is worthwhile. The question really is whether $1968 is a reasonable price for a mid-range 24" iMac with a 3 year parts and labor warranty.
This may sound like I'm splitting hairs, but in the first question I've already decided that I want to pay $1799 for an iMac, and I'm trying to decide if I should pay more money than I had planned to. In the second case, I'm looking at a computer and after-sale support as a package, since I've already made the decision that I want the AppleCare service. The fact that I can get the same iMac without the after-sale support isn't really relevant. It's a small difference, but it does change the decision making process.

Jun 29th 2009 10:24AM When upgrading to Safari 4, I had issues with frequent crashes. What worked for me was cleaning up the previous plugins I had with Safari 3.
You can check to see what plugins Safari 4 is using by going to Help -> Installed Plug-ins. In a Finder window, go to /Macintosh HD/Library/Internet Plug-ins. Also check the Library/Internet Plug-ins folder in your user folder. Cross check the installed plugin list that Safari gives you with these folder. If a plugin doesn't exist on Safari 4's list, delete it. I have had no problems since then.

Jan 22nd 2009 2:44PM I always thought that one of the huge strengths of the Obama campaign was its widespread grass roots support from all parts of the country. Now I realize that it apparently was contained to "the Manhattan media bubble and Silicon Valley's startup cube farms", which is why they are upset about having to use Windows.

Jan 21st 2009 12:40PM I don't have an Apple TV, but if I was to get one, I think I'd rather spend an extra $300 and have a Mac Mini hooked up to my TV instead. That way, if the TV/Movie side of the iTunes ecosystem ever goes down (not likely, for sure), I think I would have more flexibility in being able to use the unit.
