Blu-ray releases on July 22nd, 2008 {Engadget HD}

Jul 21st 2008 5:49PM I don't know who said people shouldn't buy movies from Best Buy. Blockbuster is probably just trying to sell the movies at SRP. I've seen pretty good deals on Blu-Rays at Target.

Is Roku's Netflix Player living up to your standards? {Engadget HD}

Jul 5th 2008 10:44PM I like the idea, but they need to deal with issues from several different fronts. They need to get more studio participation, and I'd like to see them make good on the promise that the functionality is going to be licensed to other companies. It would be nice to have a pre-buffer so that I don't get the stutters if my net connection hiccups.

Texas Instruments extends projector-based DLP chip warranty to 5 years {Engadget HD}

Jul 5th 2008 10:40PM As far as I've heard, dead or stuck pixels almost never happens, and if it does, you'll get the display replaced. The papers I've seen suggest that you're not likely to have it happen, that the micro mirrors will last like 20 years of constant use before one does.

Loud commercials actually not that loud, just startling {Engadget HD}

Jul 4th 2008 1:11PM Pardon me if I'm incredulous, this "sounds" like a mouthpiece by the ad industry to me. All anyone really needs to do is get one of those sound pressure level meters and watch where the needle hovers during the show, then during a few ads. Perceived or not, if I can still hear it clearly by turning the volume knob down half way when I can't hear the show at that setting, then it's louder as far as I'm concerned.

Remote Buddy exemplifies the need for a universal remote {Engadget HD}

Jun 26th 2008 6:29PM Not that I would advocate a system like this, but the problem with affordable universal remotes is that each device type has its own unique needs in a controller, and it seems pretty hard to make a universal that decently supports all the basic features of every common kind of device. The basic Harmony remotes put most of the second tier controls in a page system, making them very inconvenient to get to.

Blu-ray releases on May 27th, 2008 {Engadget HD}

May 27th 2008 10:02PM I'm sorry, but what? No HD format could have possibly replaced DVD already, despite the alleged greed and the unfinished-ness. The switch from VHS to DVD was a record-breaking format changeover which is an unrealistic standard to match or beat.

It just sounds like sour grapes.

CopperGate buys HomePlug AV Powerline business {Engadget HD}

May 19th 2008 1:00AM "safer than wireless."

Wireless is safe. It's way too low power to cause damage. If wireless is not safe, then the magnetic fields from the electrical power probably isn't safe either.

MPAA dangles early HD VOD releases, in exchange for closing that pesky analog hole {Engadget HD}

May 19th 2008 12:52AM I could have sworn that there was an HDCP cracking device available for sale.

MPAA dangles early HD VOD releases, in exchange for closing that pesky analog hole {Engadget HD}

May 19th 2008 12:51AM They don't plan to use it, but they want it anyway? In otherwords, either they're just lying or they plan to use it if they can figure out a way to use it without pissing off enough potential subscribers to doom the service.

Top Gear HD, NBC editions stuck in park {Engadget HD}

May 19th 2008 12:44AM Maybe they're being too demanding on their quality if that's really why. I certainly know not to expect an in-car camera to be as high quality, I certainly don't expect CineAlta footage from within a car.
