Ten fun and mostly-free iPhone apps {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Oct 9th 2008 1:59PM Not that you asked or anything, but...
Here's my Top Casual Fun and Free (or near free) Apps:

Flick Bowling - (.99 cent sale!) - Funnest iPhone game! Bowl baby bowl!
Vegas Pool Lite - nice 3D pool game you can play over and over again.
Billy Frontier (.99 cent sale!) - 4 different types of games - 2 levels of each!
Lux Touch - "Risk-ish" game (fun, but can take some time to play)
Space Monkey (Free for now!) - what's better than a monkey in space?!!!
Sol Free- gotta love simple, free solitaire
Lite Sextuple - unscramble the letters into lots of words for points

And for grins, here's some of my Top Useful Apps:

Remote - free from Apple! Apple TV fans rejoice.
Simplify Media - access your entire iTunes music library from your iPhone
SOMA FM - (yeah its web app, but the Secret Agent channel ROCKS!)
Listingly - (web app) - the wife can add to my shopping lists from home Mac
Quip - text message with photo links
PanoLab - stitch together panorama pics from your iPhone camera

First Look: Grocery IQ for iPhone {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Oct 5th 2008 1:54AM I've been using the free Listingly web app. It's been great because my wife can log in anytime and add items to my lists. Only bummer being a web app is that my grocery store has ZERO bars cell reception.

I'm hoping Listingly comes out with a local App soon. Otherwise I may have to try Grocery IQ.

Apple TV update 2.2 brings out the "Brick" {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Oct 4th 2008 1:23AM Mine updated just fine also. An original aTV from before the "take two" version.

I stream all my content. Only sync rentals.

Am out of town now but cant wait to return Sunday and check out the new stuff. :)

No Blu-ray on Macs... and no one cares {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Oct 2nd 2008 6:47PM No need for Blu Ray on a laptop or desktop.

Blu Ray quality is only needed for watching on a GIANT screen TV with expensive home theatre audio system - not a computer screen. (or your average sized HDTV with stereo speakers)

Blu Ray disc size is not an issue for storage either, since backing up is best done to hard drives these days. Cheap, portable, and expandable.

Apple doesn't need to have anything to do with Blu Ray.

And let's certainly hope they don't try and turn the AppleTV into some sort of media computer:

I don't want to have to buy all my movies AGAIN in a new format - never again. (I'm happy now to just rent them whenever I want from iTunes and let THEM store them and upgrade their quality over time...)

And I don't want a keyboard and mouse in my living room! (just a remote control and some popcorn please...)

App Store loses "All Free Apps" link {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Sep 30th 2008 1:34PM Awesome!!!!!! What's the link to the All Free Apps page?

App Store loses "All Free Apps" link {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Sep 30th 2008 11:01AM And this is WAAAYYY easier than simply clicking on an "All Free Apps" button. :(

(not dissing the poster... just Apple for trying to make Free Apps harder to find)

App Store loses "All Free Apps" link {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Sep 30th 2008 11:00AM Unfortunately the list you end up viewing is not sortable by release date, popularity, name or ANYTHING! :(

App Store loses "All Free Apps" link {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Sep 30th 2008 10:59AM Agree completely! Apple is trying to make it much harder for us to enjoy all the Free Apps that are offered.

They're doing their best to make us to browse the paid apps wether we want to or not! :(

"All Free Apps" MUST RETURN!!!!!!!

App Store loses "All Free Apps" link {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Sep 30th 2008 10:56AM Absolutely! This was THE main way I searched for Free apps and "deals" on Apps before they became paid ones. :(

Say Hello to the new TUAW {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Sep 29th 2008 8:23PM Of course, I meant some variation of an Apple Logo - not a blatant use of their copyrighted one. (silly)
