Motorola and Verizon announce Q: $199 {Engadget}

May 22nd 2006 2:10PM rougou:

>>In any case, I'll be using skype and soonr.com
>>to do a lot of calling through my Q when I get
>>it with unlimited data and EVDO worst case.

Why would you want to do that? Even thought Skype out is now free, Soonr STILL uses your voice minutes, it simply forwards the skype call to your Cell phone...it's not using the data connection to do anything other than inititate the Skype call. I can't see how this solution does anything more than add an unecessary layer of crap to your device. The real solution is a native Smartphone Skype client that will work through EVDO. THEN it's worth it.

Verizon getting exclusive on Moto Q {Engadget}

Matt, that's all fine and good expect the ETEN doesn't have a builtin keyboard. That's HUGE to most people who want true usability with these devices. Additionally, the GPRS speed is crap! EVDO is super fast and it makes a tremendous difference on these devices being useful or not. Wi-Fi is practically not necessary for the most part.

Verizon getting exclusive on Moto Q {Engadget}

May 18th 2006 11:36AM Look like no push email (exchange activesync) out of the box in Ver 1.0 however. Verizon is pushing their "dektop sync solution" instead. Hopefully a firmware update will fix that like they did with the 700w. And hopefully Good will support this right off the bat...so at least you can get push that way

HP iPaq hw6915 PocketPC phone reviewed {Engadget}

May 15th 2006 4:31PM Is it just me or does that screen look like it has WAY too much information on it for a 240x240 screen? After using the Treo700w for 10 days, I can't see getting anywhere that much information on the today screen...even at the smallest font setting.

Boot Camp lets Macs run Windows ... officially {Engadget}

Apr 5th 2006 12:17PM What a win for Microsoft, too!

Note that it only works with full versions of XP, no "upgrade" versions. I see a big potential for lots of copies of XP full versions being purchased very soon.

Win win for both Apple & Microsoft.

Dell...HP...Gateway...this is gonna hurt you guys BIG TIME...(perhaps)

Panasonic TH- 58PX600U, TH-58PX60U - 58-inch, 10,000:1, 720p plasmas {Engadget}

Mar 29th 2006 12:06PM Actually, INHD on Comcast has had selected high school basketball championships from around the country in HD...pretty amazing when you think about it, but I guess that's what happens when the right for College & NBA are all locked up with others...a country desperate for HD content combined with sports will stoop to just about anything!

Samsung does DVD upscaling for a hundie {Engadget}

Mar 27th 2006 4:51PM Rich, you asked:

"Does anyone know of an affordable 5-disc DVD player with HDMI output?"

Sony has a 5 disc model coming very soon with HDMI output that I have been waiting for:

They were supposed to be instock on the 23rd (last week) but have been pushed back. Black or silver, looks like a pretty good deal.

Vista getting 60% code rewrite? {Engadget}

Mar 24th 2006 1:43PM 60% rewrite?

More likely 60% of the code is going to be cleaned up after debugging has been done. File sizes will be reduced and extra non-code placeholders will be removed so that the files aren't too big for the cab files....Common procdure, nothing new.

Carbon nanotube TVs to enter production trials {Engadget}

Mar 20th 2006 5:57PM "Just because something is new doesn't mean it has to be better."

And you are putting the cart before the horse with SED as well!

SED is an unproven technology at this point. Sure the prototypes at CES were certainly impressive, but until they can mass produce them and sell them for a profit, nothing can be said with absolute authority about any of these technologies. SED has apparently been in one stage or another of the "design" phase for about 20 years and the stumbling block over and over again has been mass production. At this point Canon/Toshiba haven't really given definitive assurances that they have figured out the mass production problems either.

Although I do think SED is a very very promising technology and appears to be a very strong contender.
