Recent iPhone 3GS shipments block jailbreaking, jailbreakers still in business {Engadget}

Oct 14th 2009 3:43PM I wouldn't jailbreak if I could do the following 3 things on my iPhone.

1) Reskin my desktop with a look I like. There is no reason why I can't modify my icons and desktop to something besides the bland out of the box look.

2) Run applications in the background. I like backgrounder. I use it all the time, when I am listening to an internet radio stream or Sirius XM, I sometimes like to check my email while the music is playing. Sure Apple says my battery life might go down if I am multitasking, but who cares, its my battery let me decide if I want to run it down or not.

3) Let me watch my Slingbox on the 3G Network. To do this I must jailbreak and use 3G Unrestrictor. I don't watch my Slingbox much, but sometimes I want to just check the scores or see something like the news. I have no plans of watching TV on my phone for long periods of time. I pay for my internet service on my iPhone, let me decide how I use it.

If apple addressed those 3 things I would not even want to jailbreak my phone.

iPhone MMS is now live! {Engadget}

Sep 25th 2009 1:43PM Mine is sending them, but no one is receiving the MMS messages I send.
One has an iPhone 3G with the latest software
and the other one is also a 3G with 3.0 software.

(My phone is a 3GS running 3.1 non jailbroken.)

Where are these MMS messages going if they are being sent?

SlingPlayer Mobile for iPhone coming shortly: $29.99, no 3G support {Engadget Mobile}

May 12th 2009 2:02PM It will work on 3G but you will need to Jailbreak your iPhone. There are a few apps in CYDIA that will allow you to trick the iPhone into thinking its on a WIFI network when it's not.

BTW I was using this application last week at Dish Network's Team Summit event in Denver, and with a HD Slingbox the picture was a full 16 x 9.

Sirius XM developing iPhone / iPod touch streaming radio app {Engadget}

Mar 12th 2009 1:58PM Why reinvent the Wheel? They should have just purchased the StarPlyr app from NiceMac which was an EXCELLENT iPhone Sirius XM app. But thanks to the rumored issues between Nicemac and Sirius XM"s lawyers this amazing app will never be released.

So now Sirius XM customers need to wait a few months of an application that should be out now.

Cydia developer planning independent iPhone App Store, others planning jailbreak service, adult app store {Engadget}

Mar 6th 2009 12:26PM I am affraid about this move, as up until this point Apple hasn't really tried to stop jailbreaking. This move could force Apple to make the iPhone much harder if not impossible to jail break.

Apple has always known that folks do it, but other then the fluff in the press a few weeks ago havent really dont anything to stop the practice.

I just wish Apple would let us use programs like Winterboard, Boss Prefs and a few others then for many of us there would be no reason to jailbreak.

Another thing is everytime Apple comes out with a firmware upgrade its a pain in the butt to re jailbreak the phone then download all your apps again from Cydia.

DISH Network's Draco project brings programming to Windows Media Center {Engadget HD}

Jan 16th 2009 3:09PM Tom, if that was the case then how come you can't watch DirecTV on a Playstation 3 yet?

Like DirecTV's HR series the just announced 922 is also supposed to be fully DLNA compliant.

I think Dish should stop working on this project and instead have the folks at Sling come up with a SlingPlayer Plugin for Windows Media Center, this way any cable or satellite receiver could become available and controllable in Windows Media Center.

Jan 16th 2009 12:26PM Ahh project Stargate lives. :)

Actually I got to see some of this at CES.

But I feel unless you really like WIndows Media Center (and lots of folks do) I myself will wait for the 922 comes out (which is supposed to be DLNA compliant) :)

DISH Network's ViP222k HD receiver now available {Engadget HD}

Dec 17th 2008 7:28AM It should be noted that the 222k is NOT a DVR. The one everyone is waiting for is the 722k that is a DVR. The 222k is just a receiver which can output to two televisions.

http://www.dishnetwork.com/downloads/pdf/product_brochures/222k_brochure.pdf

The 722k (The one with the DVR) will be out within the next few weeks.

Me personally I am waiting for the 922 which will be announced at CES which will contain built in Sling functionality. That receiver will be this years hot product from the CES show.

How would you change the Slingbox Pro HD? {Engadget}

Dec 5th 2008 10:27PM There are a few things I would change.

1) Add IR learning features to the Slingbox. As I have a number of Satellite receivers which are not supported by the Slingbox, it would be cool to have the Slingbox learn the remote.

2) Be able to tune Analog Cable and QAM signals without having to reprogram the Slingbox each time when witching between modes.

3) iPhone Application!

MacBook Pro first hands-on! {Engadget}

Oct 14th 2008 2:39PM Isn't it great to have a cool computer that has great software to edit high definitio, but the screen des not support HD resolutions, nor is there a way to burn a disc of yourcompleed HD work.

I was really expecting them to add Bluray today and was highly disapointed when they said no.
