802.11n to dominate the wireless HD wars, says In-Stat {Engadget HD}

Apr 30th 2009 10:12AM There is enough equipment out there that the final standard will be made backward compatible. Hardly anyone will notice the 802.11n ratification early next year.

Goldmund asks "What recession?," releases Telos 5000 amplifier {Engadget HD}

Apr 28th 2009 3:29PM A lot of cost probably went into the D/A for the S/PDIF input. If you're using an amp like this, chances are you will use the analog XLR jacks.

The Middleman throws broadcast flag on ABC Family {Engadget HD}

Jul 1st 2008 8:25PM Judging by the shows, the broadcast flag seems more like a good taste filter than a recording restriction

10 of the worst scams, lies, and ripoffs surrounding HDTVs {Engadget HD}

Apr 29th 2008 10:56AM I totally agree with #1 HDMI. It's such a consumer grade piece of crap. Why do we even have component video? Because someone decided the decades old RGB analog wasn't good enough for the consumer electronics market. The only reason for HDMI is to have HDCP. And running a high bandwidth signal through an unshielded twisted pair cable is a big problem for long cable lengths.

Interact-TV unveils MyTellyHD Linux-based media server {Engadget HD}

Jan 31st 2007 3:36PM Name is misleading. Single NTSC tuner only. Its 720p component output, no ATSC tuner and no Blu-ray or HD-DVD makes it nothing more than a stretch-o-vision scaler.

Oppo DV-981HD 1080p DVD player reviewed {Engadget HD}

Dec 19th 2006 5:32PM Makes more sense to put that $229 towards a HTPC and you can scale and/or convert to your hearts content, and even use vga. What's better at D/A conversion - a computer graphics card that was designed for that purpose, or a consumer grade HDTV using HDMI? That's a no brainer.
