Home beta down Thursday morning for mall stock taking {PS3 Fanboy}

Dec 4th 2008 12:58PM This is going to be good for all of us(who like PS sytems). Regardless of if you want to buy anything on home for home or not, why bash people that might? Do you not realize that every dollar Sony makes in Home goes toward paying back the 3 billion or so they have already lost putting out the Ps3? Home will ensure that there is a Ps4, I for one am all for it.

Research finds that people still heart physical discs, greatly prefer Blu-ray to streaming {Engadget HD}

Nov 15th 2008 12:25AM @anyone that says BD is DOOMED!!!

It's been a while since a posted, I still read the comments quite regularly, however commenting has become pointless because there has been very litlle actual data released over the past six months. Aside from the % charts from HMM, which have been showing BD growing over the last year. Here is a quote from the digital bits(flame away about bill the shill all you want).

"Also today, the Digital Entertainment Group held an interesting press event this morning in Hollywood to talk about the latest HDTV and Blu-ray Disc market research. On hand were senior home video execs from all the major Hollywood studios. Among the interesting revelations (and we'll be talking about them a lot more on Monday) were these:

We're now a little over 2 years into the growth of the Blu-ray format. At the same point in the early life of DVD, there were 1.2 million DVD players in U.S. homes. Fox's Mike Dunn claimed that there are more than 2.5 million stand-alone Blu-ray players in the U.S. today, with another 8 million PS3s. Price points for both Blu-ray hardware and software are at about the same level as they were at this point for DVD.

BD hardware sales were reportedly up 25% in October from the previous year.

Blu-ray software sales are actually AHEAD of the DVD software sales curve, and have been accelerating even in the last two months as the economic slowdown has become more obvious.

The DEG says that a year ago, Blu-ray made up about 10% of total sales of new blockbuster titles. Today, that total is 14%, and the industry expects that to increase to between 18-20% in the next year (likely starting with Warner's The Dark Knight). Much of this is being driven by the adoption of HDTVs in the U.S. (which are now installed in 50% of U.S. households).

The DEG's research indicates that some 28% of HDTV households in the U.S. currently view Blu-ray movies. No actual hard numbers were given, but according to the U.S. Census Bureau, there are roughly 111 million households in the U.S. (as of 2007), so some 55 million of those current have HDTVs. At a 28%, that comes out to about 15 million U.S. households watching Blu-rays, either on stand-alone players or PS3s. That's our own rough calculation based on the estimated percentages the DEG provided.

We suspect the actual number is somewhere between 10 and 15 million, which would more closely match up with the estimated number of BD players and PS3s mentioned above - something north of 10.5 million. Regardless, that's still an impressive figure when you consider that the laserdisc market - at its height - amounted to a total of 2 million LD players here in the States. In a little over two years, Blu-ray has ALREADY far surpassed laserdisc and is currently running ahead of the DVD adoption curve. So much for those claims that Blu-ray will remain a niche market."

Everything but the last part, which is info given by Bill himself, is info from DEG ( Digital Entertainment Group). Which just held a press conference today. This pretty much tells the story, so say the economy will kill BD, say that it's the next LD, say that streaming will take over physical media all you want. Because hey, it's the internet and know one knows who you are. So why not make an a$$ out of yourself at any chance you get, right??

Blu-ray holiday primer gets you informed {Engadget HD}

Nov 7th 2008 11:08AM So you must really love the studios, you pay them $10-$20 for bits. When I give someone $10-$20 I expect some type of goods in return. Not just a file that could be wipped out by a virus on my CPU(even software companies still put pgrms on disc). Oh wait I forgot I could just back up my HD movies onto external HDD right?? Then I could take them and play them on other ppl's HTPC's right? How silly of my to forget that HTPC's are taking market share from DVD players right now..... oh wait that's BD players......

Sony turns CDs blue with new Blu-spec CD standard {Engadget HD}

Nov 5th 2008 11:36AM Do you ppl that bash Sony even like tech? You ppl do realize how much Sony has contributed over the last 30 years to the industry right?? I mean really, I read about new tech and I think cool, at least these guys are still pushing forward even though this might not take off. You know "for the pursuit of better tech". Please if you don't have anything creative; and most of the time relevant to say. Go invent you own tech and see what you can come up with.

Analyst predicts "dramatic" drop in Blu-ray sales during Q4 {Engadget HD}

Oct 22nd 2008 9:17PM Here's an interesting point... What if Q4 for this guy is Jan-March. The problem with all of these articles is they use quarters. Some business are in Q1 right now. It just depends on when they started. So if this guy is perdicting that sales will drop from Jan to March, then someone get this guy a medal for being the most obvious a-hole ever!!
HD sat/cable?? You ppl know that sat/cable was around when DVD and VHS were in the market right?? The bottom line is this... Lower disc prices mean more sales. The studios know this ppl, if you think that you are smarter than the ppl that run studios for knowing this, then get yourself a medal for being the dumbest a-hole ever!!! Like Gus said it's all about the $$$ right now. BD is growing year over year. That is all that matters to these ppl.

Analyst calls for PS3 price cut, Sony says no thanks {PS3 Fanboy}

Oct 10th 2008 1:50AM Let me get this straight.. You think losing market share year over year to a system that is more expensive means that MS has this gen wrapped up?? WOW remind me to never read an article that you dream about wrinting.

PS. MS is losing lead development in lots of places. Also I'm not a "fanboy" I hated the PS2 that is why I bought an xbox. Guess what? MS left all it's xbox users out in the cold; and the PS2 outsold the 360 From Jan 13 till March 23 this year. Look at this:

http://vgchartz.com/hwcomps.php?cons1=PS2®1=All&cons2=PS3®2=All&cons3=X360®3=All&start=39453&end=39726

Yeah MS really has this thing wrapped up, LMFAO!!! The only time this year it has outsold the PS3 is when a $150 price gap appeared. Yeah your not a "fanboy".

Again for you xbots that are posing as economists, and journalists. For people that want to just game they will by a 360. For parents that are looking for the cheapest solution, they will by a 360(I work in retail and yes i do sell 360's with HDTV packages too). So don't worry there will still be more xbox's out there after xmas than PS3's. Just mabye not after next xmas. Also don't get too pissed when MS drops you 360 useres like bad habits to "focus development on their new system".

It's funny, I always say the same thing. I bought mine for $599 cdn. I pd $456 two years before for a 7800GT.. It Blew me away when ppl were lining up for the Iphone two months(or something like that) after the PS3 was released like it was the best deal in the world; it was $499(lol). I was just floored. The Ps3 was a good deal at $599.

Oct 8th 2008 10:50PM Oh and I'm a dad too. So nice try on that angle.

Analyst calls for PS3 price cut, Sony says no thanks {PS3 Fanboy}

Oct 8th 2008 10:49PM I'm not saying price isn't an issue, just to set the record straight. What I'm saying is ENOUGH people will see the value in the PS3 from now untill xmas to warrent Sony keeping the price where it's at. Sure an extra $50 would help sales. Is it going to sell two million extra units. NO, it won't.
My point is; all Sony has to do is keep ON PAR with the 360. Meaning the 360, with a $150 price gap(LOL), can outsell the PS3 by a little; (50K units a month) throught the holidays becasue they will sell lots of PS2's and PSP's, and have closed the gap between the 360 and the PS3 greatly this year.

I could care less If MS sold more 360's in Japan this month. Great job; one month out of what 2 years now?? Point is that Developers are slowly switching to the PS3 for lead development, and the PS3 is used to build arcade games. If you can't see the writing on the wall, I feel sorry for you.

One more thing, R u losing your shirt right now?? Yes the economy is hurting, but face reality, people are still buying things. If you think that anyone that is looking at consoles or BD players or HDTV's this xmas, is being run over by the economy, it is you friend that needs to get your IQ tested.

Oct 8th 2008 8:39PM Do you realize how many kids out there have an HDTV?? Quite a few. Lots of parents have 2 HDTV's already and the kids get one as their primary T.V.(Basement). Blu Ray is huge right now in the retail business for people with HDTV's (i work in it).

So now lets think about it. You have 2 kids. Both want a Blu Ray player and a Game Consloe. With how spoild kids are now, some people with one are looking at both for thier little Johnny(yes even in this economy)

Which makes more sense $250 on a BD player and $299 on a 360, which is $540. Or a PS3 at $399(Best BD player on the market)???

I think your missing the point. The only people who are going to buy the 360, are people that want a game consloe and that's it.
Parents are stupid, thier kids aren't. Neither is Sony. It seems everyone, including xbox owner's, want/are expecting the Ps3 to sell 3x as much as the 360 this xmas. Sony dosen't care if they sell 3x as many consoles, as long as they are on par with the 360, the gap has been closed between the two for this year, and next year it's a new ball game. Oh ya then you have the PS2 and the PSP, so really sony will sell 2x+ as much hardware this xmas, it just won't be all Ps3's. I'm sure they are really sad about that.

I am a former xbox owner that is trying to save people from getting left in the cold. The 360 will be left for dead just like the xbox, and PS3 owners will still have new titles to chose from 6 years from now. With the option to upgade to a new system with different/better games. You know like how you can get lego Batman, Tiger Woods 09, MGS 3, and NBA 09, all for the PS2. Or you can upgrade and get the PS3 that has better graphics for lego Batman, Tiger Woods 09, NBA 09, or get MGS 4, which is differnt and better than MGS 3. But hey GO MS!!!!

-end rant
