New Win 7 ads highlight the bright ideas of 'regular people' (video) {Engadget}

Oct 22nd 2009 1:06PM "so give it a break, Dan. You and your Apple shinies get plenty of press. . ."

I think you misinterpreted my comment. I'm calling Engadget out on some pretty obvious... inconsistencies... in their reporting. A new laptop gets as many stories as a new OS, this isn't even counting the Mac Mini 'updates' and the oh so magical mouse.

I realize some of those laptops have already been covered on this site but they could always rehash stores for those in response to the launch event. But nope, only Apple gets the privilege of rehashed stories for additional press on this site.

I love you guys and usually ignore this crap, but seriously the new MacBook is a complete non-event in the scheme of things compared to 7. Yet it gets covered equally.

"Need a tissue Dan?"

No thanks. You need it for jacking off to the next non-event Apple comes with that you'll be oh-so excited about anyway.

Oct 22nd 2009 12:08PM Wow. Bang up job on the 7 launch. 2 stories and then the Whopper.

Slow down you're going too fast...

New MacBook, 2 stories. New OS that will ship on 80%+ of new PCs, 2 stories.

You aren't even mentioning the '7 Second Demo' commercials. Neowin and their tiny news section even has this crap beat.

April Fool's: Microsoft to release all future Windows 7 builds via P2P {Download Squad}

Apr 1st 2009 11:19AM What would be really cool is if Microsoft was inspired by this joke and actually did post weekly builds or something.

Fat chance :\

Mar 27th 2009 12:20PM "At the time of Windows 98 and all, plenty of people were willing to make the upgrade to Windows 2000(or ME, ugh), and then XP. "

But not really if you go back and look at what was said the first year or two XP came out, and the adoption numbers. There was definitely a movement of people wanting to stay on 98 for performance reasons, among other things.

Mar 27th 2009 11:26AM "Seriously though, this looks actually pretty nice. Considering you are forced to upgrade to Vista/Windows 7 for DirectX nowadays, (which pisses me off to no end!)"

I'll take this chance to argue another angle of this DirectX 10 discussion (besides the very true and factual "different architecture" angle).

It's not like this is unprecedentent. 8.1 is the last version for 98/ME, which means DirectX support for the OSes ended near the release of XP (and ME was only a year or two old at that point). At some point OS support has to stop, and when a massive architectural change is ushered in it's not a bad time to do it.

Free Microsoft support for Windows XP, Office 2003 ends next month {Download Squad}

Mar 26th 2009 1:35PM 1) How can you even measure something like bugs? If you compare what needed fixed in patches, XP required FAR more patching in it's first two years than Vista (hint: that means Vista was less buggy).

2) If you were paying attention three years ago you'd know 'Vienna' was always on the roadmap for a 2009 release. Take one guess as to what Vienna's new name is. Oh look, they didn't rush anything, especially not in response to Vista. And if Vista was such a failed experiment why is so much of it still prevalent in 7?

Nintendo announces DSi-only and "DSi Enhanced" software {Engadget}

Mar 26th 2009 12:13PM Exactly the point I was going to make Rocke86.

This is similar to the GBC. Most 'DSi' games will end up being the enhanced variety. With only titles that NEED the extra power and features being DSi only.
