Magic Mouse unboxing video: Man vs. Tape {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Nov 1st 2009 10:26PM First of all, I am an ergonomics nazi and extremely sensitive to clicks and textures. I went to an Apple store today to just check it out and it had me at scrolling. Being able to quickly flick anywhere on the mouse to the bottom of a long page is insanely convenient and almost *fun*. I've had no problems with scrolling down or up. The mouse as a whole feels silky smooth in the hand, and the click is just perfect (something I've always been very particular about). I like a soft, quiet click with my keyboard keys, but I like my mouse clicks to feel substantial and solid. Given how shallow the Magic Mouse is, the click feels more substantial than that of the Mighty Mouse.

I don't know the specs, but the tracking seems a lot smoother than that of the Mighty Mouse. When I click and drag a window, for example, it seems to have a higher FPS rate as the window moves across the screen.

What I don't really care for is the fact that you have to keep two AA batteries in it at all times. The Mighty Mouse allows you to just use one AA slot at a time to lower the weight of the mouse. The Magic Mouse is substantially heavier with two AA batteries. If you like a heavier mouse, this will likely suit you fine.

Also, as noted in the video, the plastic "shoes" don't feel great on many surfaces. Having a smoother bottom would be nice.

As a graphic designer, I found the packaging to be pretty much irresistible and simple to open. As noted already, there's a pretty noticeable arrow pointing to where to lift the sticker off.

All in all, I frickin' love this mouse and I wish I could recommend it to my PC-using friends!

iPhone 3G owners and AT&T upgrade woes {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Jun 8th 2009 8:39PM Instead of paying AT&T $299 I wanted to for the 32GB iPhone (before I found that I don't "qualify" until September), I'm right on the edge of paying them $175 to kill my contract. This makes no sense to me whatsoever. They've only managed to piss a lot of people off and potentially lose quite a few customers.

The only company that can cannibalize Apple is Apple... that's the meaning of cannibalism.

Comcast and Insight complete midwest transition {Engadget HD}

Jan 4th 2008 7:41AM I'm willing to give Comcast a shot. I had them in Michigan, and had no problems. I'm hoping now we'll get more HD channels. When I would ask Insight about TLC, Discovery and Animal Planet in HD, customer service would just answer with a "huh?"

And I'm looking forward to not seeing those INSANELY ANNOYING Insight commercials anymore. "DSL stands for.... Desperately Seeking Lickity-splitness!"

Poll: Is your console connected to an HDTV? {Engadget HD}

Dec 23rd 2007 2:18PM I just sold my Wii on eBay because it looked like crap on my HDTV. I loved the games, but just couldn't get used to the blurriness. I'm waiting on Nintendo to release a Wii with HDMI, but with how fast they're selling, I don't think they have much incentive.

Can't hear anything? Try turning that iPhone around {Engadget Mobile}

Nov 9th 2007 9:37PM I wouldn't be too surprised if the director told him to hold it that way so as not to set off the proximity sensor located in (or near) the ear port - so the screen wouldn't turn off.

Leopard delivery delays hit some areas {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Oct 26th 2007 2:32PM Bloomington, Indiana - about 45 miles south of Indy:
Got a delay for my work copy. I called FedEx and they told me about Apple's request to delay. Came home and my personal copy was sitting at the front door. Guess that deliverer didn't get the memo.

Apple iPhone update 1.0.1 released! {Engadget Mobile}

Aug 1st 2007 8:45PM Same here... and I realized it had nothing to do with my using an iPod dock connector. After I *THOUGHT* everything was in tip-top shape, after it said it had activated with AT&T, I turned it on later and I was presented with the "Please Activate iPhone". Now, every time I plug it into my Mac (without the iPod dock, of course) it just beeps repeatedly, doesn't show up in iTunes, and says "sync in progress". After force restarting it several times, I'm able to use it, though it still beeps repeatedly when I plug it in.

I'm admittedly an iPhone fanboy... waited in line for 4 hours to get this puppy on release day and now I'm quite embarrassed and annoyed.
