The rumors of Blu-ray's death are greatly exaggerated {Engadget HD}
Oct 30th 2008 11:54AM All I can say is "Blu-ray is here to stay for a long time....". 80% of my movie collection are Blu-ray. I don't ever buy DVDs anymore. At Blockbuster, Blu-ray rentals have tripled with more shelf space since it started. My friends are buying Blu-ray players...I don't foresee Blu-ray going away anytime soon.
Toshiba knows no shame, plans to release super-resolution DVD player {Engadget HD}
May 30th 2008 6:05PM *LOL* This is a joke!! This will only confuse the consumers more, it was bad enough to have the format war before and now a super-DVD-player that can play HD!! They're greedy, they don't want to lose royalities on DVD and they're taking away the full movie experience at home. You probably won't get the full 1080p resolution, you won't get the lossless audio and you won't get the superior interactivity like you do on BD-Java... Why didn't they think this before HD-DVD was out?? Why do this after HD-DVD lost. I tell you why, plain and simple, GREED!!!

I highly doubt that X360 is going to get much better graphics then what we've seen in Gears of War. I too own both consoles, some of my favorites are Dead or Alive 4 and Dead Rising... I am not biased by any means and yes you are correct that X360 will tend to have better anti-alias since I do notice more jaggies on PS3. I just find that graphics overall look more impressive on the PS3 and it isn't because I want to believe that.
As to which console has more potential in terms of better graphics, I'll take the developers word when they say PS3 hardly taps its full power whereas X360 has pretty much maxed it out, this is coming from Epic games and they're one of the best developers in the world. It's taking time because PS3 is extremely difficult to program but in the long run, it's going to surpass X360.
With games like Ratchet and Clank and Motorstorm. I just can't foresee games like that made on the X360 with all the insane amount of things going on without slow downs. I know the X360 would be struggling. If the PS3 game produce games in 1080p @ 60 fps, why can't there be more games on the X360 do that? If it's struggling at 720p, you rarely going to see any 1080p games...
Until I see it with my own eyes, your fact sheet doesn't mean anything. When I said it's debatable, I mean that I hear from all sides. Some say 360 has better specs and some say PS3 has better specs according to developers. We'll just have to wait and see...

As for which console's graphics (PS3 & X360) is superior, that's debatable. I've seen that fact sheet so many times and doesn't mean anything... It's true that most multi-platform games look/plays better on the X360 but some games on the PS3 are better like Oblivion, Devil May Cry 4, GTA IV (according to IGN and most other critics even if it has lower res), Dirt...
Back in the days when Gears of War was created, Epic developers were saying they maxed on the 360 so you're not going to get much better then that... PS3 has ALOT more potential in terms of improvement. Resistance was a first generation game, Resistance 2 is going to kill Gear of War in terms of graphics...
I clearly find the graphics on the PS3 superior then the 360 in my eyes. With the insane amount of things going on, less pop ups, smoother frame rates, better texture, less tearing and it's only going to get better...
Most developers out there already favors the PS3 as the more powerful console... Xbox 360 has already maxed its power while the PS3 has a lot of room left... When compared to the first year of PS3 versuse X360, there are more impressive games on the PS3. X360 didn't have crap for the first year. Most of these exclusive games on the X360 are also on the PC and we all know consoles can't compete with PC's graphics in terms of power... Back when 360 was released, it was considered 90% better then all those high-end gaming PC, now it's probably below 40%.

Exclusive 1080p games on the PS3 are:
Gran Turismo 5: Prologue @60 fps
Lair
Ridge Racer 7 @60 fps
NBA 08 @60 fps
and more...
90% of PSN games are in 1080p
The only exclusive 1080p game on the 360 is:
Blue Dragon

May 28th 2008 1:08PM I own both XBOX 360 and Playstation 3. Both consoles are great, If you have a 1080p HDTV, no doubt the Playstation 3 as the interface was design 1080p in mind whereas XBOX 360 was design in 720p. There are more games in 1080p on the PS3 whereas there's only a few on 360... PS3 feels more futuristic and better quality. I already had to replace my 360, upgraded to an Elite. There are a lot of great exclusive games on the PS3, same goes with the 360... I feel the quality of the PSN games are little better then the XLA games.
Ovrerall, I would pick the PS3.
Sony's 1.80 PS3 firmware enables 1080p upscaling for games and movies {Engadget}

"For movie watchers, DVD upscaling will be added along with 1080p24fps support. Nice!"
Where did you hear the movies will be at 24fps? if this is true, this would be sweet!

You're not understanding me right. I have a HDTV that goes up to 1080p natively. When I watch DVDs, I prefer to watch them in 480p, upconverting to 720p or 1080p makes no difference for me. The way the PS3 has it setup right now, it picks the resolution that the game/movie are made in so that way you know what resolution it's in. Now by having everything upcoverted to 1080p, it only confuses people what they're actually seeing, by keeping it the way it is now, people will know what resolution they're actually watching it at. get it??

May 23rd 2007 12:56PM I prefer to play games and watch movies at their native resolution, not this upscaling crap. This only confuses people and when people watch DVD movies, they think that's HD because it's in 1080p which logically it's NOT!!! I hope Sony allows this as an option or don't do this at all... upscaling it nothing more then just pure marketing gimmick to get people all hyped up about seeing their 480p movies in 1080p which isn't a different other then the image might look more solid but exact same pixels and resolution.
Truth in Advertising: PS3 Blu-ray player {Engadget HD}
Mar 26th 2007 2:33PM 360 HD-DVD add-on is crap. The player is slow, last couple of movies (Miami Vice & Beerfest) I've seen looked like crap especially when it's dark, there were white grain everywhere and scenes kept changing light & dark, the remote control is annoying having to point at my 360 for it to work... now for the PS3, the BD player is fast, responsive, last couple of movies (Gridiron Gang & The Prestige) looked outstanding, blue tooth's remote control allows me to point anywhere in the room and it still works and the PS3 is quieter then the 360.
