Apple buys P.A. Semi chip designer, Intel says wha? {Engadget}

Apr 23rd 2008 3:01PM perhaps apple doesn't like updating its computers on intel's schedule? The macbook pro refresh was early due to new intel chips and they macbooks and macbook pros are getting another early refresh in June due to intel.

Apple likes to run things their way. They also don't like being predictable. Unfortunately intel makes them predictable b/c of publicly announced chip plans, releases, changes, etc.

I could be wrong, maybe the chips will just be for ipod/iphone, and macbook air. You never know, the iphone line could get as big as the ipod line (iphone classic, iphone nano, iphone flip, etc.) they will need a large amount of chips.

Time Warner Cable deploys 150k OpenCable STBs, aka CableCARD 2.0 {Engadget HD}

Oct 18th 2007 10:43PM I guess I don't see the point of a CableCard in a CABLE PROVIDER's set-top box. The box can't do anything that the box without the CableCard can do. The market for CableCard should be actual TV sets. It cuts out the need for a cable provider's set top box, cuts down on monthly fees, and does everything the box would do with just a card in the back of your tv (except of course DVR).

The only other device that would justfiy a cablecard would be a third party box (ie consumer-owned). That way you aren't renting the box from the cable company and you can just rent the CableCard.

Can someone explain to me the purpose of renting the BOX and the CableCard from a cable provider? Its just stupid!

I have a plasma with a CableCard. I get all my highdef, premium channels, etc. I can't get ppv because its the old standard, but the new ones WOULD be able to do that. So why get the box?

HD DVD and Blu-ray releases on November 14, 2006 {Engadget HD}

Nov 14th 2006 2:18PM Just curious why your "available title" stat for HD-DVD and BD is so far off from Amazon's at thedvdwars.com AND from what I've seen at my local Best Buys in C-bus Ohio?

Released titles:
HD-DVD 110
BD 77

Available for pre-sale:
HD-DVD 152
BD 96

I think these numbers are a little more accurate as Best Buy here in Columbus seems to have every available title and they are almost dead on with the 110/77 numbers from Amazon. Just FYI, that's all.
