Parents Too Busy for Storytime {ParentDish}
Mar 5th 2009 3:16PM Reading is certainly of fundamental value, and I love reading to my son, although I tend to think these kinds of studies simplify things dramatically by throwing everything that is done on a computer or in front of a TV into this scary category: "screentime." Not all screentime is created equal. Kids zoning out to Spongebob? Maybe not so great. Kids creating their own books on http://www.tikatok.com? Much more like it!

All-in-one coffee makers brew up good results {Slashfood}
Nov 21st 2006 11:45AM I owned a Melitta for a while and wasn't impressed. The other aspect of proper coffee brewing is the heat of the water, and I felt the Melitta, with its thermoblock water heater, didn't get the water to the proper brewing temperature. Even with fresh Peets beans, the coffee tasted flat to me. I ended up selling the machine on craiglist when I moved, and am back to the plastic cone method.
Cook's Illustrated did a testing of grind and brew coffee makers about a year ago, and have also tested blade grinders. They indicated that blade grinders do a fine job for brewed coffee if you grind the beans for longer than the specified time and shake the grinder to distribute the grounds. I thought the Melitta would work well because it allows you to specify longer grinding times. As I recall they recommended the Cuisinart over the Melitta. Forget if they rated the Capresso.
Pepperoni Pizza Soup {Slashfood}
Nov 9th 2006 3:46PM Campbell's makes a similar soup, minus the cheese, in their "Selects" line: Italian Sausage with Pasta and Pepperoni. It's pretty decent. Seems like you could add some fresh mozarella and be done with it.
