Poll: Where do you buy your Blu-ray Discs? {Engadget HD}

Jul 12th 2008 8:39PM "Who needs to buy when you have NetFlix?"

People who like having a physical media library.

People who like a movie enough to watch it repeatedly.

Sure, it costs more than renting, but, if you watch a movie enough times it'll pay for itself. If you have the resources, buy all you want.

Poll: Where do you buy your Blu-ray Discs? {Engadget HD}

Jul 12th 2008 3:18PM Who would be foolish enough to buy Blu-ray Discs retail? Provided they have access to the internet.

Amazon all the way!

Ask Engadget HD: Which HD DVD player should I pick up for the holidays? {Engadget HD}

Dec 19th 2007 10:32PM I upgraded from a XA2 to an A35. Although everyone brags about the XA2 (Reon HQV Chipset), the A35 (Anchor Bay Technology's ABT Chipset) is actually better at upconversion than the XA2. There really IS a difference. Standard DVD's look so close to hi-def on the A35 you'd swear your watching an HD DVD. Not so on my old XA2.

I'd go with the A35 or A30. Latest technology for less $$$ than the XA2.

DirecTV to deliver 70 HD channels by the end of Q3? {Engadget HD}

Aug 9th 2007 7:58PM I don't know. Directv solicited me over the phone wanting me to rejoin because I switched to DISH Network for their HD package. They lied their asses off to get me back by telling me they provide the VOOM network and had more HD channels than DISH.
BOTH were lies (obviously).

Atmel intros 'industry's smallest' laser diode driver for HD DVD / Blu-ray {Engadget HD}

Jul 24th 2007 11:58AM I have to agree with you. Same thing happened with DVD-R(W) and DVD+R(W). Both formats were competing with each other, now both formats co-exist. Same thing can happen with high-def DVD's.

The "war" is far from over.

Toshiba's second-gen HD-XA2 reviewed {Engadget HD}

Mar 6th 2007 8:31PM Looks can be deceiving. I own the HD-XA2 and it's NOT as big and boxy as it looks on this page. Sony's Blu-ray disc player is actually bigger and boxier than this. That's as far as aesthetics are concerned, but the real issue is which looks better on a display? And I have to say it's the XA2 all the way! I've seen a Sony displayed at a local electronics store (on the same display I own:SONY's KDL-52XBR2)The movie they were showing was The Fifth Element. I was not impressed. As fate would have it, they showed The Fifth Element on TNTHD that same night. And I was more impressed with the broadcast than with the BDP. (And I'm a bit of a SONY fanboy.) But, when it comes down to it, I want the best product for my money and HD DVD delivers a better overall picture.
