Resolved: iTunes movie rentals should offer an extended-time option {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}
Mar 4th 2008 11:35AM I'm not really sure why it isn't just a 30-day rental and viewing period. Since the movie has a DRM-expiration anyway, why not get closer to Netflix (in spirit) and let someone watch the movie at anytime 30 days after the rental?
In the case of Blockbuster and Hollywood Video stores, they are concerned about availability, so getting the physical disc returned is important to their ongoing business. But the number of the digital files is unlimited, so what is the drawback of permitting the renter to watch it as often as they like within the 30 day term?
I've been very happy with the quality of the HD movies on iTunes/AppleTV and plan on renting more. It just seems like opening that viewing window up more is only going to be more enticing to the consumer.
Sirius and XM set to merge? {Engadget}
Feb 19th 2007 11:21AM Would the lack of an alternative actually consistute a monopoly if nobody else is seriously interested in entering this business? I guess I always believed a monopoly only existed if the exisiting business used its leverage to shut out competition, not by simply being the only player available.
It seems to me that if a merger is in serious discussions that a monopoly is an inevitability at some point since one of these two is hurting enough to not be able to survive on their own.
New Adobe CS3 Icon Contest {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}
Jan 30th 2007 9:05PM I actually like the new CS3 icons. Simple, elegant and consistent. And I imagine that the block of them in my dock will stand out clearly from all the other apps, similar to the way the current Macromedia apps do.
INHD2 is dead, long live INHD1...err, Mojo {Engadget HD}
Nov 5th 2006 9:46AM I'd be happy if they just stopped showing Laura MacKenzie's Traveller show. I can't think of anyone I've ever seen who was less appealing and less qualified to explore the world around us. Her cultural faux pas are mildly amusing, though.
