RCA announces HDV5000 HD DVD player {Engadget}

Apr 19th 2006 2:20AM and why is there a (noisy) fan in the back..?
rediculous, all pc manufacterers are trying to adopt passive cooling and more and more consumer electronics brands are putting in very cheap and thus noisy fans. cut it!

Ask Engadget: that's just NASty {Engadget}

Apr 14th 2006 3:30AM well.. I use a snazio Tera Nas HD Pro, which was bought as a DIY kit. threw in 4x 400 GB Samsung in hardware raid 5 and off we go.
it is DLNA compatible so ideal as a mediaserver, and it has gigabit too.
see http://www.snazio.com/Links/TeraNAS%20Intro.htm for more.
another option is the buffalo offcourse (no hardware raid though. it uses software.)

MovieBeam reviewed: worst high-def picture quality, evah! {Engadget}

Mar 16th 2006 8:39AM This is exactly the same quality as my ota subscribtion in europe. they simply compress too much, this way it is hard to see if you are whatching SD of HD.
for me, satellite is the only way to go.
and for the dvi thing, that's nonsense too, never heard of a HDMI to DVI cable?

Virginia Tech's 24 display workstation {Engadget}

Mar 13th 2006 4:38AM no damn at all.
i see 15 FPS in the top right..

Western Digital displays its soft side with MyBook line of drives {Engadget}

Mar 9th 2006 10:56AM Almost perfect, if they would make these daisy chainable with firewire and connectable to the home network over CAT5 cabling, this would blend in nicely on the living room bookshelf, you would not even notice it's there, and all your knowledge would reside on the same place!

HP Pavilion dv5000t Core Duo laptop reviewed {Engadget}

Mar 3rd 2006 5:41AM Who Cares about the shortcuts, they are all shortcuts to pre installed useless programs. If you are going to buy a high spec machine like this, just format it as you turn it on and install what you need. that way, you'll have it to your liking.

HDTV invades Holland {Engadget HD}

Feb 23rd 2006 3:24AM This will be available to a small public in Holland.
So an invasion will be somewhat exaggerated. As the owner of the 2 new channels is part of one of the major cable companies, this will be available on cable only, so no OTA (DVB-T) or Satelite (DVB-S) hdtv yet (certain tests have shown that with the current bitrate used on cable and terrestrial broadcast even sdtv is not up to par with sattellite or dvd quality so broadcasting hdtv will be an even larger challenge, probably the image size will be hdtv, but the compression rates used will completely destroy the picture as they do now

Widescreen iPod video is next? {Engadget HD}

Feb 10th 2006 4:23AM If I was to design a device like this, which would be all screen in the front, i would invert the clickwheel on the back. using your middle - or pointing finger, it should be ok to control it, the click button could be on the side, where you put your thumb. that way, you won't have to touch the screen

Blueado's m5e WMCE shoe box {Engadget HD}

Feb 3rd 2006 3:11AM This is just an Aopen barebone which is filled with standard components by Blueado. that means you could probably do the same trick for a couple of hundred bucks less
