Bit of news to quiet down all the iPhone lovers, especially in Europe. Talking to my friend’s boss at Phones4U, the iPhone is not coming to Europe till 3Q next year at the earliest. Also, the iPhone has already been manufactured and 1,000 units were sent to Mobile Phone stores in the U.K. for testing and every one was sent back due to all of them failing to boot. Nov 12th 2006 2:04PM You ask why?! It's because the PS3 has Blu-Ray. They won't be covering it for long with Sony's current trend. Poor MP3 players, poor lithium-ion cells, overpriced Flat TVs and a major overpriced, obese, 80s looking console. Aiming to ship 6 million units before March 2007 with a near dry out on blue diodes and demand for the UK launch, Sony are having a laugh. That 70% console grip is slipping very fast.

Nov 10th 2006 6:48PM You guys seriously make me laugh. Lets stack the HD DVD drive vertically to try and fool people into making it appear bigger. You forget the fact that Microsoft designed this a long time ago and didnt plan to implement the drive into the 360 to make their production more efficient, thus gaining a head start on the PS3. That PS3 is like any American these daysmorbidly obese and no life. It looks like someone watched Knight Rider and thought about making a console that is the size and look of 80s technology. You also forget the fact that you can take the HD DVD drive to any of your friends house who has a 360 or plug it into your PC. New drivers mean it will be recognised in XP. Can you easily do that with the PS3no!
Also those 4.7 million lines of new code are false. The majority of it is embedded codec code which means it is already written.

Rick, where did you get such nonsense as only 1.5 studios are releasing content for HD DVD, I didn't know half a studio existed. To quote from the Microsoft site "Enjoy hundreds of great HD DVD movies this holiday from major studios such as Universal, Warner, Paramount, Studio Canal, and more" doesn't take a genius to count more than 1.5 studios there. Also if this site did its research it will find that HD DVD has 125 titles already to Blu-Ray's 74, that's 5.2 titles a week, more than Blu-Ray. That's all thanks to HD DVD currently having no region coding, another advantage over Blu-Ray.

Oct 26th 2006 12:52PM Nice to see you resetting the count, another tactic to make Blu-Ray appear in front, even with these tactics, and if they do catch up, it still means nothing. HD DVD still has the quality movies on release, Blu-Ray are releasing mostly junk nobody wants to see. HD DVD players are outselling Blu-Ray 2:1, Play.com report HD DVD media is outselling Blu-Ray 3:1 and Amazon 4:1. A lot is going to happen in the next few months, PS3 will be in high demand and going by the current trend Blu-Ray players will be delayed again and with Microsoft releasing HD DVD for $200 and to quote the Xbox 360 HD DVD Player is the most affordable way to jump into the next generation of DVD technology.

Oct 24th 2006 6:10AM Also "Wellinformed" not long ago, weren't all 8 studios backing Blu-Ray, then according the "experts" article who has no credibility saying it was 7 studios, now you claim 5 are backing Blu-Ray, quite a drop in such a short time. Also 90GB HD DVD to 100GB Blu-Ray is the same inconvenience...they both will take a long time. Also 200GB Blu-Ray is just a theory, there is no major news on a working prototype as TDK have only just started work on the 100GB disc. As for the "next-gen" both formats are "now-gen" as they are out...now! They are called "next-gen" just because they are superior to previous generation. It's nothing to do with being future proof. By the time Quad HD is rolling, you will need "next-gen" equipment, new discs, movies, movie masters, cameras, displays, codecs, and facilities...next-gen stuff. The only credit I can give Sony is their power of advertisement. Just look at that PS3/HD DVD/Wii comparison table, thats propaganda even the Third Reich would be proud of. The only thing that will win it for them is their reputation based on the PS2, people dont care, they just want a PS3now!

Oct 24th 2006 5:52AM While it may be true that Blu-Ray can store more than HD DVD that's not going to make a profit for the backers based on storage alone. Also, you only really need 100GB for Quad HD and by then a new format would have arisen. HD DVD can have triple layer 45GB which is still significant. It's all well saying Blu-Ray can store 100GB+ but they have twice the capacity already for high movie quality and HD DVD is winning hands down with only 30GB discs. Also Blu-Ray discs are not cheaper than HD DVD, as HD DVD can use existing DVD production facilities with only slight modifications, making it VERY cheap, while Blu-Ray needs new expensive facilities. Lastly..."Triple Layer capacity Double Sided HD DVD = 90 GB" Google it! Sony's BDP-S1 Blu-ray player delayed again...again {Engadget HD}
Oct 20th 2006 12:21PM I swear you guys get money from Sony; the amount of biased articles you write is ridiculous. They screwed up Betamax and MiniDisc and are currently screwing up Blu-Ray and PS3. How many times has both been delayed and the shoddy titles they release, they expect us to pay a silly amount for a "Beta" player that still has lots of bugs to fine tune. Sony has their heads so far up their own backside. XBOX 360/HD DVD will be everyones choice this Christmas despite your claims as people want the cheapest goods possible. 99% of people can't tell the visual difference between the two formats so far. As for your King Kong article, just because it may not feature TrueHD, you come across as it being a slim-picking title. How many good films has Blu-Ray released?! I can count them on one hand. How many units can decode TrueHD? And who actually cares, there are too many "high-end" audio codecs as it is. XBOX360/HDDVD with King Kong...bye Sony!
Also, the fact Blu-Ray having one over on HD DVD by having 50GB discs is purely a myth as HD DVD has triple layer 45GB discs ready and waiting when the Studios require the extra space. 30GB for a movie coded in VC-1 is the sweet spot for 1080p compression, so who needs 50GB MPEG2 Blu-Ray discs. The VC-1 codec is now compressing at 10mbps per movie, action movies as well, showing how the codec has grown over the past year, a Microsoft Codec. Sticking with MPEG is going against the trend. Once Blu-Ray take some common sense and adopt VC-1, the price of the players will be the factor, and HD DVD has let its technology be used for cheaper alternative Asian-produced players, which means very cheap players. Once a player hits the sub 100 mark, the better the market will become and one will become the outright winner, not looking good for the Sony rip-off money machine. As for being adopted by the masses, the PS3 is negated by the XBOX 360. The PS3 gets connected to normal CRT non-HDTV for the kids, the family picks up the free Blu-Ray disc and sticks it in, then realises theres no difference from a normal DVD and throws away the idea of buying more Blu-Ray software, that being the key! As for the software, XBOX360 on the other hand, if you actually put the effort in to know about it and buy the HD DVD add on (it wont be bought for XBOXs in kids rooms hooked up to 4:3 CRTs) it being a HD DVD, common sense tells you it needs a HDTV. Those who buy the HD DVD add-on will buy HD DVDs as no other reason for owning it. With every HD DVD drive sold per head, you are looking at someone who will buy the discs, with the PS3 not necessarily.
