Nintendo failed to notify third-party devs of MotionPlus prior to E3 {Engadget}
Jul 23rd 2008 1:11PM N30 G30: The GCN did not "do well" by most meaningful metrics. Their handhelds is what kept the Big N in the game at all during that time.
Someone below said it best, Nintendo's mistreatment of 3rd party is systemic and would have led to the downfall of the company by now, if not for their unending ability to appeal to the masses. But I guess that's good for them, I suppose.
Sucks if you're a dev that wants to actually work with Nintendo, though.
Joystiq E3 eyes-on: Sonic Unleashed {Joystiq}
Jul 21st 2008 6:39PM Like Joystiq and many commenters, I'm wary, but somewhat excited that Sega just might have finally done it. Maybe, just maybe, they made a good Sonic game again. 8^D

Jul 21st 2008 4:48PM um, really? At least she handled it sorta well. But yeah, the game looks terrible (oh god, the interface is so bad), the song clearly isn't a master recording. crap all around. Konami, I'm very saddened at this.
Nielsen VideoScan High-Def market share for week ending July 13th, 2008 {Engadget HD}
Jul 19th 2008 1:24AM one, engadget doesn't come up with these numbers, Nielsen does and it's posted in Home Media Magazine. Bitch to those people about how you think the survey should be run, please. BTW, you know what Nielsen does? Statistics. That's their business. Out of curiosity, what's your line of work?
two, the percentage comparison of DVD vs. BD in the middle of the chart is listed as being * UNIT VOLUME, which means the numbers shown are based on the number of "units sold" boys and girls.
I swear.
As for the rest of your post (about prices and people may not be willing to buy something something), you might have a point, but Blu-ray is the only place to get 1080p video and uncompressed or at least very high-quality audio, and I'm of the opinion there will always be people willing to pay for that (or at least marketed into thinking that they want it). It's really just that simple.

When I saw/heard that, I was like, wait, did he trade with Samuel L. Jackson when I wasn't looking?
Engadget & Joystiq live from Sony's E3 2008 keynote {Joystiq}
Jul 15th 2008 4:53PM sorry dude, Sony's was in no way as bad as Nintendo's. Read your justification and still think it's wrong.
Engadget & Joystiq live from Sony's E3 2008 keynote {Joystiq}
Jul 15th 2008 4:44PM Nothing as big of a visceral "HOLY SHIT" moment like MS, but really look at the content and I think you'll see that this was a substantively better keynote. But that's just my opinion, I guess.
- PS3-PSP integration is being driven even further
- fully-fledged TV and movie downloads (this one is catch-up with XBL, admittedly)
- really cool looking exclusives, both full PS3 and PSN (seriously, tho Infamous looks sweet)
- $399 80GB PS3
- Home looking solid and on track, Life with PlayStation
- That car show might be seriously cool for those of us who are gearheads
- DC Universe seems kinda cool (haven't seen video yet, tho, so I'll reserve judgment).
- etc.
In any case, new features, good (exclusive) games and better media choices across the entire Sony gaming universe. I'm not sure what else you guys wanted. *shrug*
Oh, that's right. A "HOLY SHIT" moment (Halo 4 exclusively on PS3! ;P). I do have to admit that that wouldn't have hurt.
First Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe gameplay trailer is toasty {Joystiq}
Jul 13th 2008 4:00AM sorry this looks like shit. And the capes look STRAIGHT out of the 90s. You'd think, with a mini-supercomputer at their disposal, Midway could render it so the capes flowed AT ALL like fabric.
God, MK is so tired. I have NO idea why they keep their terrible animation/fighting system going in its undead state. That's what's killed me the most about MK. The characters are usually clever and interesting, the story is alright, but the fighting system itself has ALWAYS been terrible. Always. Vote me down if you have to, but I said it.
Sony's CFO says no PlayStation 3 price cut is planned {Engadget}
Jul 11th 2008 1:45PM @bohshocks:
Another reason you might want to rethink your "Sony quality is questionable" stance, a recent-ish study (early 2006) that made it's way around the wires saying that Sony is the world's most popular brand:
http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0EIN/is_2006_Jan_5/ai_n26717922
sure, popularity != quality, but it can usually be a pretty good indicator, especially when the survey asks the respondents about the perceived quality to judge said popularity. Anyway, I'm sure if you dig, you can find more.
