Ask Engadget: What's the best netbook out there? {Engadget}
Aug 14th 2008 11:18PM Does age count?
If not, then my money is still on the reliable eMate 300. Small, green, cheap, can go wireless, has a touchscreen out of the box.
Only bad thing is figuring out how the hell to sync it with modern computers. I am almost there with mine. Also, the 10 year old rechargeable batteries are probably long dead, so you will have to rebuild the pack. Not an issue for the people who get the eMate.
Plus Newtonworks is still has the best word processor on a mobile device IMHO.
Shapely Samsung a237 coming to AT&T {Engadget Mobile}
Aug 5th 2008 1:49PM Very nice, a camera, BT, speakerphone, just what I need. I hope they slot this either just above the a127 or replace it, because the a127 is quite limited, and too tiny. I also hope they removed the 45kb (or whatever it was) java app limit.
It's either this one, the a227 (if they ever put it on the personal site), or the a117 if I am feeling cheap.

Aug 1st 2008 2:02PM Apple also has copies of the older versions of AHT for the older macs. It's how I got a version for my old Pismo, and burned it to a CD (they are compressed ISOs). Works great. here's the link:

82% of America never uses text messaging {Engadget Mobile}
Jul 7th 2008 9:52PM I still have the one in the middle, the white one, though mine has black plastic.
Ah, nokia 1100, where would I be without you? only missing a speakerphone, and you would be perfect.
But the casing is getting creaky, battery life is getting shorter, and I had to replace the battery cover once. But it keeps on ticking.
Sadly, in a couple weeks I will be getting a new one. I was thinking iPhone, but maybe a ruggedized flip. Heres hoping I can get another phone that lasts 4 years and still looks brand new.

Jul 1st 2008 6:15PM Towards the end when he shows how to customize the homescreen, notice on the second one: The iPod Touch Contacts application. AFAIK, contacts on the iPhone are done through the Phone application.
Unless I am wrong, how did that get there?

Jun 30th 2008 5:26PM So I guess you guys did not even consider my REAL entry? My c139 is trash, and I have no phone until I can upgrade in late September. Too bad, because I kinda need to call people. Important people.
Now what am I supposed to do?
I demand a recount.

Jun 27th 2008 1:10PM Internet Explorer 5 for the mac.
Why? because it is the fastest browser for Mac OS 7/8/9. iCab may be more modern, but it's dog shit slow.
Also you can customize the color of it, something you can't do in any other browser except FF. But the colors match the time it came out: in the fruity colors era. They have all the colors of the iMac/iBook/Powermac/Powerbook at the time, so it fits in nicely when I set up a machine from that era.
Just one little feature I wish they would bring back, but I do all my browsing in Safari or FF, or more rarely, camino.

Jun 22nd 2008 12:44PM I keep my network open out of necessity. My DSL modem has a built in 802.11b/g router, and even though it says it can do WPA, it has problems. I was told by my ISP I might as well use WEP, which is for "home users". HA! I consider myself a power user/prosumer, and I get a bit paranoid. I would like to use WPA, but since I can only use WEP reliably, and I live in an area where not many people know what the internet is (Detroit), I just leave it open. That plus the fact I have a couple old wavelans (one is a Lucent Wavelan Gold, the other a Cabletron Roamabout, which AFAIK is a silver), they can only do WEP. But I use them in my newton and I can't register the driver so no WEP for me.

Jun 13th 2008 8:08PM The upper part with the moto logo and speaker grill on the front, as well as most of the back looks very close to the c168/i. I had one, made for a great cheap phone. Maybe this is being targeted at the low end.
