Poll: Have you purchased a Blu-ray player post-fallout? {Engadget HD}

May 4th 2008 11:50AM i am not trying to sound like an ass and be a HD-DVD troll but i like my HD-DVD players they are doing great and are amazing upconverters for alot cheaper then a blu-ray player. But i feel sorry for anyone who has a current blu-ray player that is not a PS3. Because Sony knows and has pretty acknowledged but doesn't care that all current non profile 2 players will be obsolete when blu-ray movies have the upcoming java+ DRM which current players can't do which is why they need to release a new player that is profile 2 compliant. So all you biased blu-ray trolls who curently have a blu-ray player that make fun of HD-DVD owners and are gloating, are in the same boat as HD-DVD your movie selection is limited as well and will be forced to buy a new player if you want to continue your blu-ray collection.

Also anyone who has a 60gig PS3 becareful and i recommend not downloading the new firmware 2.30 it has bricked my system and i can't play any PS2 and PS3 games. I also read on Sony's own forum that i am not the only one having problems with it. It won't recognize any PS2/PS3 disc but it plays PS1, CDs, and DVDs just fine. It's the new dreaded 800... error i even saw on G4 the feed about it becoming a common problem.

Good ol' Sony quality huh? Gotta love it.

Sony Pictures schedules two BD-Live releases for April {Engadget HD}

Mar 20th 2008 11:02AM I completely aggree with you. You made excellent points. I think Sony is just trying to do this so that can say they can do what HD-DVD could do since DAY 1.

I personally think HD-DVD should have won and was suposed to win, they were gaining steam and kept it close despite being outsold 5-10 to 1 because of the PS3 and until Sony paid everyone off. Blu-ray isn't even finished yet, is not region free, riddled with DRM, and is more expensive. Did anyone notice when the format war ended the price of blu-ray movies and players jumped a little? My friends who work for best buy noticed it and were talking about.

Plus all the early adopters are going to be screwed when profile 2 comes out because they can't do java based movies and sony knows about it and doesn't even care they expect their loyal followers to keep buying their crap.

I know, i know you are all going to flame me. Well go ahead i don't care.

There is one more thing i wanted to say. Everyone saying Blu-ray was not the new beta was wrong and everyone saying HD-DVD was the new beta was right but not for the reason you think. Because beta was better then VHS but lost so seeing how HD-DVD was better and lost which means HD-DVD was the new beta haha. :-p

Nielsen VideoScan High-Def market share for week ending November 18th, 2007 {Engadget HD}

Nov 26th 2007 7:56PM oh shut up you close minded idiot. Blu-ray is NOT winning no one is. Plus just because you sell more because you have 10 times more players does not mean you win. Look at the ratio? How is that winning?

Plus you did not answer the question of if blu-ray is so special with twice the space, better bandwidth, and being superior product how have they not won already? Why don't they have a much bigger lead?

If HD-DVD wins a week then blu-ray is in danger of dieing out. It's surprising they are doing this good against the might of the PS3, Disney, and Fox. Only 2:1 with 10 TIMES LESS players come on do the math if you know how. To be this close is amazing.

You know everything i said was true you are just trying to spin it to make it seem like you are right when you aren't.

fine tell me what is so wrong with HD-DVD? I want a VALID well thought out list of reasons same for why you love blu-ray and sont so much.

Why defend blu-ray and Sony seeing how blu-ray is not even finished, and why defend Sony they need to be kicked in the ass for their constant annoying arrogance. They don't give a shit about you or any of their fans and their customer service and constant retarded quotes prove that. I want HD-DVD to win because i DO NOT want Sony to be in charge of a format with their illegal rootkits, DRM, etc... They need to be humbled and go back to the way they were in the 80's when owning a Sony product was a status symbol. Now all i hear is sony products crashing and failing and they are a joke now.

HD-DVD sounds much better and right to the point and should be the successor to DVD and was supposed to be until SOoy's constant power hungry need to own a format to fuel their massive ego.

I don't want a arrogant company to have any more power to fuel that ego that has gotten way too big.

I await your reasons.

Nielsen VideoScan High-Def market share for week ending November 18th, 2007 {Engadget HD}

Nov 26th 2007 6:17PM I like HD-DVD, i think the selection is better, no region coding, the hardware is finished no confusing crap with profile 1.0, 1.1, and 2.0 blah blah blah.

But what i am surprised is how NO ONE mentions that HD-DVD is selling remarkably well and keeping it so close despite having like 5-10 times LESS PLAYERS. So keeping it less then 2-1 is amazing, HD-DVD is selling ALOT better then numbers say if you consider that fact.

I know you bluray fans will disect everything i say and try to insult me calling me a HD-DVD idiot but i don't care say what you will i just had to say that blu-ray is NOT selling better, they are selling more because they have ALOT MORE players. Also movie to player ratio is important and HD-DVD has a MUCH bigger ration which studios do and should look at. Why the hell release 10 movies on blu-ray is the ratio is only 1 movie per 3 players when you can make those movies on HD-DVD where the ratio is 3 or 4 per player.

By the way i think the 40gig PS3 is STUPID and NO ONE should buy it just pay the extra $100 for the 80gig, or and upscale them to high def and have your memory card slots and all the USB ports.

The ONLY reason blu-ray is even still around if because of the PS3. IF the PS3 did not have blu-ray player it would have never been a issue.

Plus i like what other people have said, if blu-ray is so much better and has more movies and is the best and supirior product why hasn't it won already? Also when HD-DVD had no releases for a while? ESPECIALLY having tons more players out thanks to the hype of the PS3 and more studio support like Disney and Fox in their corner etc...?

European HD DVD Group talks attach rate numbers {Engadget HD}

Nov 13th 2007 8:12AM I was not surprised when i read the attach rate, it's basically the same here. Also the Attach rate is actually important figure for companies making movies. It tells movie studios that people who havd HD-DVDs tend to buy more at a time and per player but if they releaseit on blu-ray that most people only buy like one at a time oor one per few players. SO it makes studios think why should i release a bunch of titles on blu-ray if only one will sell per every 3 players when i could release it on HD-DVD and have people buy multiple at once and per player. Make sense?

So if they sell them on both but blu-ray has higher sales because it has almost 10 times more player but the attach ratio is low compared to HD-DVD that sells a alot and the attach ratio is higher but not as many sales as blu-ray because they sell more movies per player it makes them think HD-DVD sells better especially when the base gets higher.

Sorry it's early and i am tired and tryign to hurry before work so if i repeat myself sorry. But i hope i get my message across.

Sony's Stringer: Blu-ray vs. HD DVD battle a "stalemate" {Engadget HD}

Nov 9th 2007 7:59AM Well there was only suposed to be one format, Toshiba and Sony were close to creating one format until the annoying Arrogance of Sony pissed off toshiba by demanding full control of the unified format, so i don't blame Toshiba for leaving they knew their technology was cheaper to produce, and they know people care about price not all kinds of fancy specs. BETA was better then VHS and more technological but more costly and look what happend? The PS3 has better specs then the 360 especially when it was the onyl one with HDMI and 1080p but people didn't care the 360 was cheaper and has more and better games so the PS3 is lagging in sales.

I don't want Sony to control anything until they lose that that arrogance and go back to the 80's style Sony when they were the epitome of quality and cared about products and customers. They need to be humbled like Nintendo was during the SNES years (i know this is not a game forum but hear me out), the Former Pres. of Nintendo was what Sony is now he was so cocky and arrogant from the SNES being so popular that he pissed off all the 3rd party support and made the N64 cartridge based and was the reason the PS1 even exists and was killed by it so they forced him out and put in a new man in charge and the new guy went back to the drawing board and created the DS and Wii and are now on top when they were dead last and everyone thought they should end the console race and go the way of Sega, now lok at them? That is what i want to happen to Sony. I want them to be dead last and have to rethink things and have to go back to the drawing board and come up with something awesome and ragain their 80's glory.

Does that make sense?

Nielsen VideoScan High-Def market share for week ending October 28th, 2007 {Engadget HD}

Nov 2nd 2007 11:38PM wow you really are an annoying ass you know that? I really do hope you get banned. I don't mind some supporting your fav format but being an arrogant and ignorant ass about it just frustrating.

Ok then blu-ray fan justify this. Blu-ray is barely selling 2 to 1 over HD-DVD (be more creative and think of something new then DUD which is not clever at all just makes you sound more childish and stupid) but what NO ONE is mentioning is that blu-ray has 10 TIMES more players because of the sales of the PS3 and yet only manages to sell 2/1 on movies? That is horrible sales. Blu-ray should be selling 5-10 times if not more then HD-DVD, ESPECIALLY having MORE studio support from MAJOR studios like DISNEY, FOX, etc...
but the facts say that they only have a 2/1 lead and getting smaller thanks to the cheap new sales of HD-DVD players, so if you think about it HD-DVD is selling WAY WAY WAY better then your beloved blu-ray disk.

THE ONLY REASON why blu-ray is even around still is because the PS3, and even that is not selling all that well. I have one but i barely even use it (not many game worth buying) and with the multiple new skus i think it's going to kick them in the ass.

So what do you think? I know you are not going to respond because all you do is say somethign stupid and get people pissed off and then not respond.

Michael Bay still pushing for Blu-ray {Engadget HD}

Oct 23rd 2007 7:37PM just wanted to clarify why GM cars were used. I am assuming you did not see the making of transformers on HBO huh?

They sent invites/letters to all car companies for the rights to use their car in the movie and the ONLY one who responded was GM so yes there is a valid explanation to why all the cars were GM because they did not have the rights to any other cars. Plus the military has worked with Bay on other movies so they were more then happy to lend their hand and get free advertizing.

Cheaper PS3 targeting 'moms' as media center {Joystiq}

Oct 22nd 2007 4:08PM If you want a PS3 by all means go for it(although right now i rarely even use mine and when i do it's to play FF12 and do the folding@home seeing how there are no games that i want to buy until ratchet and clank comes out and it's funny how the only games i will have forit are from the same compnany), but do your research and i HIGHLY recommend going with the original 60GB PS3 if you can find one. I personally think the 40gig is a stupid. The HDD is replaceable so why keep changing the size? you can buy a CHEAP 500GB HDD on amazon or ebay for a couple hundred. Plus i do not like how the 40gig does not play PS2 games. The 60gig upconverts DVDs and old games which is cool if you have a HDTV. I got mine because i only paid $300 for it and i wanted the original before they became scarce. My friend bought one and is regretting it seeing how we barely use it becuase no games worth buying and the ones he likes he just gets for his 360 or PC.

By the way just wanted to add to Gonk DO NOT trade in your PS2 for the 40 gig then you can't play any of your PS2 games. It is NOT worth it, the PS2 has too many good games to play and the PS3 doesn't just yet.

Not trying to be a hater just HATE the way Sony has been run lately.
