Jun 24th 2008 1:12AM I think the mistake you're making is that MTV stands for Music TeleVision. Some years back, around the time that the real world started taking off, the M became Mindless. The only worthwhile shows I've seen produced by MTV are on their subsidiary channels. VH1 specials are occasionally entertaining, mostly due to the comedy talent they can sometimes get. Human Giant is hilarious, but again, birthed on MTV2.
A presidential asparagus lover {Slashfood}
Jun 21st 2008 12:01AM There are so many great ways to prepare asparagus, a couple of which I've taken from this very site. Lately I've been baking them wrapped in prosciutto, which is a crispy salty taste sensation (but really, you could wrap basically anything in prosciutto for the same result...) I made the spring minestrone mentioned a while back on here, and that was terrific. Steam them, bake them, stir fry, its hard to go wrong with asparagus.

Jun 17th 2008 1:12AM I've spent some time considering this, and I've yet to come to a good conclusion. The only actor I kept coming back to, and is unfortunately not a realistic possibility, is Chevy Chase. He (is? was?) a master of confident incompetence. I think Ryan Reynolds could do a good job, but he doesn't have the right look.
I very much see your point, but it really begs the question of why it was made. If you don't have a talent to match Don Adams, what is the point?

However, the cast on Burn Notice seems like they're having so much fun, and the voice-overs explaining his methodology are so well written and interesting, that there's no way I'd miss an episode. Anything to keep Bruce "Don't Call Me Ash" Campbell in business!
CineVegas Review: Get Smart {Cinematical}
Jun 16th 2008 2:08PM Ever since I saw the first trailer for this movie, I've been wary about it. When I actually heard the premise, my wariness increased. Your review has done nothing to placate my unease. Apparently this movie has been designed for people who have never heard of the original. The comedy in the original came from his supreme confidence in his inadequate skill-set. Never for a second did he believe he could fail, and through sheer force of will (and 99's brilliant support), he never did. I love Steve Carell, but I don't love his work, he's been horribly miscast in a horribly mis-written movie based on a tv show that I love.

'Death Race' Trailer Hits {Cinematical}
Jun 14th 2008 12:55AM The only thing that would make this a must-watch for me would be insane cameos. Show a clip reel of previous races, throw in a bit part for Stallone and Carradine, get Corman to put his flourish on it. Solid gold.
As far as the trailer goes, it really does tell too much, but it gets the point across. Don't go in expecting Shakespeare, go in expecting Bruckheimer/Bay. Could be fun.
Blood on the Sand: the Burnout of shooters {Joystiq Xbox}
Jun 13th 2008 8:51PM I'm going to go even more old school here and say that Serious Sam already did over-the-top shooter. Were the graphics cutting edge? No. Was there a story beyond "kill everything"? Barely. Ask yourself, though, what other game had suicide bomber enemies? With no heads and bombs for hands? And 4 player co-op? Serious Sam boiled the FPS down to its very essence. None of this "strategy", none of this "storytelling". Point your gun at something, kill it.
