Check out Toshiba's 2008 Super Bowl ad over at Engadget! {Engadget HD}
Feb 4th 2008 11:33AM I'm in Los Angeles and saw the ad. But really, I could have easily missed it. It was so forgettable. I actually caught myself ignoring the commercial because it was sooo boring in a sea of somewhat interesting commercials (although I think this year was one of the worst for the commercials). I noticed halfway through the commercial that it was the HD-DVD commercial. The only good thing about the ad was the $149 tag at the end.
I think it was a weak performance by HD-DVD. They had a good shot but failed myserably. The goal was not too just have the name out there...they needed a BIG WIN if they wanted to stem the bleeding. This ad wasn't a big win, it was a yawner.
Thieves choose Blu-ray over HD DVD in mass disc heist {Engadget HD}
Jul 25th 2007 12:36PM Kris man...you really need to keep up with the times brother. All dual format releases of recent (for at least the past 3 months) have received equal reviews.
You guys do understand that this article was meant to be humorous, right? Or did you HD-DVD guys completely loose your capacity to enjoy a good laugh at your own expense?
Life's to short to get all worked up over a silly format war!
Blockbuster chooses Blu-ray: is the war over? {Engadget HD}
Jun 18th 2007 12:55PM The fact is that this is a big publicity hit against HD-DVD. Doesn't matter whether your a fanboy or not, what matters is what the masses hear and see. Most people are not aware of the war as intimately as those of us who read sites like this or AVS Forums. They just run across things from time to time, and I have to tell you, this one hits where it hurts. I actually didn't read this on the net first, I heard it on my radio station on the way to the office. KLOS, one of the biggest classic rock stations in So. Cal., with a huge listenership, read this story in their news brief. I would wager that it will be carried in some sort of fashion in most 5 o'clock news shows as well.
This one is going to hurt.
Universal poised to hop onto the Blu-ray bandwagon? {Engadget HD}
Feb 7th 2007 7:43PM I hope they hold off for a while. Having two competing formats is healthy. If it weren't for HD-DVD I don't think you'd find BD's selling for the same price as most HD-DVD's.
The competition is healthy, even though I'd like to be able to buy Universal movies for my PS3.
So, what'd you get? {Engadget HD}
