Jul 3rd 2008 1:16PM It means if you live in Kansis City you won't get the SDV channels on the list. At least none of them are HD.
Ask Engadget HD: What is switched digital video (SDV)? {Engadget HD}
Jul 2nd 2008 6:40PM "How would the server pass out the appropriate packets to each device? Is it possible to carry multiple channels on the line in this scheme?"
Every channel that is used by at least one person is sent.
If a channel is used by someone else already, then that channel is used.
If every SDV channel is being used there is no bandwidth savings.
That is why SDV is not used for local stations.
Comcast relegating some stations to digital only in Washington, D.C. {Engadget HD}
Jun 12th 2008 3:20PM Call Comcast and tell them they can't scramble them. The only exception is if they can prove major cable theft problems. Do a new channel scan, they be under different channel numbers such as 105.2 instead of 12.1. If you still can't get them and Comcast won't fix it, you need to complain to your local franchise authority. Charter does not scramble them. Charter scrambled a local 24 hour weather channel by mistake. I emailed and told them that was not allowed and it was fixed within a day.

Jun 11th 2008 8:07PM You don't need to upgrade to digital cable to get these stations. TVs and VCRs with QAM tuners will get them, just do a channel scan. The FCC forbids scrambling local broadcast stations.

May 8th 2008 12:53PM I have two CableCard TVs at my house and my father has two at his house. Charter charges $2 a month for CableCard and $10 a month for an HD box. SDV is not used so I get all the HD channels. My newest TV even has TV Guide On Screen. It is better to have a TV with a CableCard slot even if it is not used yet. You aren't locked in to having to rent a cable box. .

Apr 28th 2008 7:56PM Cablecard TV's are great. I have an Hitachi 1080 plasma with cablecard and TV Guide on screen. I can edit the TV Guide to put the channels in the order I want and delete the channels I don't watch. I can set reminders with the TV Guide to automatically turn on the TV and switch to the channel when the program starts. A cable box can't do those things.
