Microsoft beats Apple to the livingroom: What does it mean? {DV Guru}

Nov 10th 2006 6:29PM XBox360 has a normal DVD drive, not HD-DVD. HD-DVD is a $200 add-on. Still, I would like iTV to have a built-in upconverting DVD player, that way, I can replace my DVD player with iTV instead of adding it to my entertainment center. I don't want yet another box on the rack.

Black Friday promises deals on HDTVs, riots likely {Engadget HD}

Nov 10th 2006 1:01PM Check out http://blackfriday.gottadeal.com for ads from various stores. My friend bought a 32" Polaroid LCD earlier this year from Circuit City for $1100. On black friday, you can get a 720P 40" Polaroid HDTV (includes ATSC tuner) for $999. Cool eh! I know Polaroid is not a high end brand, but my friend loves his 32". If you use your own speakers, this TV is not a bad deal at all. Most TVs now a days are HD monitors or HDTVs. I have not seen too many EDTVs now a days and that is a good thing!

LG's 100-inch LCD set for mass production {Engadget HD}

Nov 2nd 2006 4:26PM This does not make sense!! If I am in the market for such a big TV, it will be for a dedicated home theatre room. If I have a dedicated room, then why would I want to spend $100-$200k on it. I would rather buy a $10k Sony Ruby (or is it Pearl) project and a nice Stewart Screen and call it done.

There are better ways to spend your money!! and these devices are just bragging rights, nothing more. For public locations, I can understand, but for homes.. naah.

Sony VGX-XL202 Blu-ray media center reviewed {Engadget HD}

Oct 18th 2006 7:19PM Actually this design predates the Toshiba HD-DVD player. The previous generations of Sony Media Centers XL1 and XL2 had similar designs.

Engadget HD Review: Olevia 542i 42-inch LCD {Engadget HD}

Oct 18th 2006 7:17PM I agree with the previous posters. My friend bought a 42" 1080P westy. It has 1 HDMI and 2 DVI ports. I wish it had two HDMI and one DVI. But the picture is awesome. I took my PowerMac G4 to his home and hooked up a DVI cable between the mac and his TV and the Mac recognized it as a Westinghouse 42" 1920x1080 P 60Hz monitor. Everything looked great and no overscan. This is the kind of display I want when I am in the market.

CMO to ship 47-inch Quad HD -- 1440p -- LCD in 2007 {Engadget HD}

Oct 17th 2006 11:09AM While the resolution is that high, it can only produce 90% of NTSC color gamut. ATSC color gamut is even higher. I am more interested in a realistic color image than more resolution. I heard the new laser TVs coming out can handle 3 times the color gamut as these TVs.

Engadget HD giveaways: win another Philips 42PF9631D 42-inch plasma! {Engadget HD}

Oct 12th 2006 11:05AM I don't have a cable card. I am OTA-HD only. Happy with the reception. Don't miss Cable only programs.

Engadget HD giveaways: win a Samsung HL-S5679W DLP with LED backlight {Engadget HD}

Oct 5th 2006 9:50AM I love my TV free. I love OTA HD. I am thankful that all major networks broadcast most programming in HD. I love my Sony HD-DVR. I don't like compromises like the one DirecTV is upto. My favorite show in HD now is House!! It looks so good.

HDTV Listings for September 28, 2006 {Engadget HD}

Sep 29th 2006 12:34PM MyNetworkTV is a new network launched by News Corp (Fox's parent company). UPN and WB could not continue as two independent networks, so the parent companies Viacom and Time Warner decided to merge them as form CW. So, in most markets that had both UPN and WB affiliates, one affiliate was left without a network. Most of these stations joined the My Network TV network. In some markets it is the former UPN affiliate. In some market, it is the former WB affiliate.
