Sony's 1,000,000:1 contrast BRAVIAs launch in Japan October 10 {Engadget}

Aug 28th 2008 3:38PM Can some one tell me if I'm missing something. The xbr8 with the LED back light has the same static contract ratio as the xbr6/7, 3000:1?

Sony debuts $1,500 SACD player with HDMI output {Engadget}

Aug 27th 2008 4:27PM whats the point of the hdmi output. I thought people buy high end audio players for the D/A converter and they use the analog outputs? Just passing the audio via digital HDMI has the receiver do the audio processing thus making your purchase of the high end player worthless right?

Best Buy to sell iPhone 3G starting next month {Engadget}

Aug 13th 2008 4:24AM @ajf
You're assuming the iphone can be resold at a higher price and drive up demand. Apple has itghten the purchase with the contract ageements although it not full proof.

Apple has a target number of sales in a short time frame, restricting the quantity of product to meet the expectation of sales in the time frame doesn't make sense. Marketing 101 failed.

Gadgets go out of style fast. Apple would probably want to sell as many as possible before other competitors release something good like the HTC Touch Diamond.

Best Buy to sell iPhone 3G starting next month {Engadget}

Aug 13th 2008 2:09AM I agree with you Craig, why give up the big bucks now for potential later. Gadgets aren't like stocks. Where they are similar is that the hype can run out fast.

Sony's XEL-1 OLED TV landing in Europe in 2009? Too little, too late. {Engadget}

Aug 13th 2008 2:04AM I'm surprise Sony even sells this display for a desktop. I would think there would be a bigger market for the big pockets to have an OLED laptop screen.

I can't imagine the peeps the cash to spend the bucks on an 11" desktop screen. The peeps with cash are mobile.

Secrets of the Atom cracked, Wind PC revealed {Engadget}

May 21st 2008 6:14AM This is a totally skewed test, NONE of the 4 machines had the same OS or ram. We all know that vista is a ram hog and vista needs 2 GB ram to run averagely. The atom is tested with 1 GB of ram.

I'm not pro or against Atom, this test is worthless unless its in a controlled environment.

In-store demo compares Monster HDMI interconnect to composite cable {Engadget HD}

Apr 22nd 2008 4:38AM you can't even believe this article if you're on one side or the other. Fry's has one of the worst setup of most electronics stores. It definitely depends store to store. But when a store daisy chains and uses a black box to supposable amplify the signal, how much can you really trust?

Only direct source to destination using different cables is a valid test. Fry's definitely won't do that. I'm not saying Monster cables is superior or a rip off, this test is just bogus and doesn't even belong on an engadget blog. I've seen CircuitCity setup that is better than BestBuy, should I say the cables one use is better than the other? NO, not enough info on the complete setup!

The real reason why FiOS channels are compressed less {Engadget HD}

Apr 22nd 2008 4:29AM I'm on comcast HD in denver and I don't get SciFi or any non big premium channels in HD. Just the basic HD package. Verizon is on par with Comcast here.

Sony underestimated 80GB demand, admits Steinberg {Joystiq Playstation}

Apr 3rd 2008 12:02AM Just shows how bad Sony's marketing team and executive management is. BC is huge and they down play it. Hopefully they see the light now.

Sharp's AQUOS HD Netcam makes NHL debut {Engadget HD}

Mar 20th 2008 2:23AM thats not the worst part. The worst part is seeing the refs make a bad call.
