It'll probably take an act of congress to ban loud commercials {Engadget HD}
Oct 9th 2009 7:20PM Unfortunately, advertisers know that they can do what they want. Without the dollars from these advertisers, we would have less HD programming. TV Networks are a for profit business like all others and it's not free for them to broadcast HD programs. If the FCC was serious about loud commercials, they would actually punish advertisers for loud commercials! Has anyone been fined? i haven't heard about anyone being punished, i just DVR almost everything, so i can skip commercials anyway. Dolby volume is too new and not available on most A/V receivers unless they are relatively new. Most TV's automatic leveling does little to help the problem, seems like were just gonna have to deal with it, or watch less TV!

Flat panel TVs at the heart of furniture accidents {Engadget HD}
May 19th 2009 1:52PM I own a professional A/V installation company and it is sad to see that people do not take the time to at least read through manuals that always have warnings about this happening. Flat panel TV's really have little reason to not be mounted on a wall anyway, but shoddy furniture is as likely a culprit as well. I have been installing for 6+ years and we have never had a TV fall off of a wall, or if on furniture, fall over. We always warn our customers who decide not to mount their TV, to secure it or keep it as far back on the stand as possible. There are enough ways for children to hurt themselves in your homes already, don't let something this simply avoidable, cause injury to anyone.
Unstable Flat-Screen TVs Sending More Kids to the ER {Switched.com}
May 14th 2009 12:03PM There is no need for another surcharge to add to the price consumers are already paying. I own a professional installation business in washington state and i am sad that something like this even happens. Instead, people need to spend a little extra and have a professional mount their Flat Panel TV. Spending a few hundred dollars extra helps people keep jobs and provides a secure, professional installation without worry of this happening. I have been installing nearly 10 years, never have we had a TV fall off of a wall. My heart goes out to anyone who has lost a child to this terrible type of accident.

Apr 3rd 2009 10:05AM That's why i say f**k tha police! Dui laws are not designed to protect people, they were designed to make the most money possible. I am 200+ pounds and i can drink 3 or 4 beers and drive fine, but not according to the laws. Luckily i have never gotten a dui, in my home state of washington, it seems all the police do is ''dui enforcements'', why? the officers actually get a restitution for every dui arrest. Basically they get paid extra for every dui arrest, as if's thats not incentive enough for a cop making less than 50 grand a year. If we wanted to really address the drinking and driving problem, they should offer assistance to getting people home rather than just waiting outside the bars and nightclubs to pull people over. I always wonder how much actual work a cop does in a day that doesn't involve harassing people. It's a power trip, and police are out to get you, so be careful.

Ask Engadget HD: Which wall mount should I choose? {Engadget HD}
Mar 25th 2009 3:51PM monoprice.com is the only way to go. Cheapest mounts available, really. I'm more concerned in the picture that all the speaker lines are behind the TV! Never seen a receiver mounted behind the TV as well to power the speakers. Ridiculous.
