Engadget HD Podcast 083 - 04.30.2008 {Engadget HD}

May 5th 2008 6:58AM This may be a little off the usual plasma topic. But my four year old HP 42" suffers from a lack of burn in, on the sides of the the display. I think that since early on when I bought the set I watched little HD content on the pillar bars are now lighter than the center section. It's not always evident, but since I know it's there lurking it bothers me.

I was thinking of creating a gradient image in photoshop that I would keep on the screen for a couple of hours at a time to see if I could burn in the sides to match the center. Is this a crazy idea?

Also, I wonder if the lack of pillar burn in is a fairly common occurence with fairly early adopters?

Mar 23rd 2008 7:29AM I'm one of those guys who has a PS3, but has never played a game on it. But I think of it as more than a blu-ray player. The media extension piece of it is not getting enough attention. But when the firmware update allows for saving files from a website, I think it will.

Now that the format war is over, the media hub war will start. You guys should have a contest to come up with a catchy name for it....

Engadget HD Podcast 072 - 02.14.2008 {Engadget HD}

Feb 19th 2008 7:06AM With all the focus on the Toshiba announcement I want to point out a technological breakthrough a spokesman for Verizon's FiOS HD cable announced today. A WSJ article, "Verizon's HDTV Pitch is Fuzzy" quoted Verizon Spokesman Eric Rabe. In response to a lack of HD set top boxes and DVRs from Motorola possibly slowing Verizon signing up new customers, Eric stated "Our standard definition looks better than the other guys' high definition anyway."

Now there is a technology breakthrough if ever I heard one!!!
