Oct 13th 2006 3:15PM @ Brian Hoyt - there are already some 1.2 receivers out. The new Marantz 7001 and 8001 both have 1.2. Also I believe the new Yamaha (don't know the model off hand) has 1.2a. You're right the 1.3 receivers don't sound like they'll be out for a while - the dates I've heard are Spring 2007 at the earliest.

Oct 13th 2006 2:47PM Check out hdmi.org for all the details about the different flavors of hdmi. I don't think HDMI 1.2 offers much over 1.1 except that it can pass or receive SACD in its native format (DVD-Audio can be passed with 1.1). Also, I would suggest anyone interested in this discussion read up on avsforum that seems to be the place for the latest information.

Oct 13th 2006 2:30PM There's lots of discussions about this at avsforum.com. The consensus is that 1.3 is not necessary. Even if your receiver has hdmi 1.1 then if the high def player can decode the new high def format then the uncompressed pcm can be passed over the hdmi 1.1 connection. Check out this thread...
