Comcast going all digital in Seattle, bringing DTAs to the Pacific Northwest {Engadget HD}

Dec 12th 2008 4:22PM It seems like Comcast is trying to hide behind the massive campaign by the FCC and use the resulting confusion to remove service from customers. As an HD nut, I like the idea of theoretically adding more HD stations, but it bugs me that the rest of the TVs are around my house are only going to get a few channels if I don't shell out for a box. Comcast could have taken the opportunity to do this at a different time and explain to customers how this benefits them. Instead, they're playing on the confusion of the masses.

All I want for Christmas is FIOS.

FX / SPEED / FOX News HD comes to Tallahassee, FL on Comcast {Engadget HD}

Nov 20th 2008 7:03PM I've seen these same three going in all over the country. When are we going to get them in Seattle? Pleeeeeeeeease? Speed and FX are the only two networks that I still watch in SD.

Is your Comcast HD quality up to snuff? {Engadget HD}

Mar 20th 2008 8:19PM Comcast is my only option. OTA doesn't reach me because of hills. I can't go dish because of my homeowners association. FIOS is just a dream. And no, I'm not willing to torrent all my TV.

So yeah, I'm disappointed that the picture quality is degrading, but I'd still prefer to have these channels instead of their analog SD versions. At least I get widescreen and improved resolution.

We keep clamoring for more HD channels but they are dealing with limited bandwidth. If they aren't willing to kill off the analog stations then what other option do we have? Be careful what you ask for.

Ask Engadget HD: What's the best universal remote out there? {Engadget HD}

Jan 23rd 2008 7:39PM +1 on this remote. I LOVE it. Potential downsides:
- If you want to do some crazy macro programming, you might have issues with the software. The software for this one is focused on normal on/off/choose input scenarios. I've used this in a home theater and multiple different living room configurations without ever running into the problem.
- It takes a split second for the button press to be translated into an IR command. 99% of the time it's fine, but I do keep my Tivo remote handy in case I'm going to be doing a lot of button mashing.

It's well worth the money. I'd buy another in a heartbeat.
