Fifteen cable networks that have encountered channel drift {TV Squad}

Oct 20th 2008 6:02PM WOW you guys totally missed The Nashville Network becoming The National Network becoming SPIKE TV. Talk about shifts.... at least with MTV, the change was gradual and went from music to pop culture based on music to just pop culture. TNN went from Bull Riding and Hee Haw to Pro Wrestling and boobs. ok, so maybe thats not such a HUGE change, but Spike's change was DEFINITELY for the better.

ThunderCats, the movie {TV Squad}

Jun 7th 2007 2:52AM Great. thats all we need. More Furries.

Which game shows do you think should come back? {TV Squad}

Sep 5th 2006 10:43AM There is a New Joker's Wild Remake in the works already.

The AV Club seems to have missed the Win lose or draw update (Whammy).

I'd love to see a remake or update of High Rollers, Sale of the Century, or Name That Tune (Without the cheesy band.) I never really enjoyed the d-list celebrity game shows like win lose or draw... reviving those would probably involve more screentime for Kathy Griffin and Andy Dick, and thats a bad thing.

Things I Hate About TV: If you change leagues, your stats go to zero {TV Squad}

Aug 13th 2006 5:25AM It is important to erase the stats when a player changes leagues / teams because a player does not play for himself but makes decisions on how/when/where to hit based on the activity of the team whole and not just himself.

For instance, take a hitter who may be on a team filled with crappy players and is batting 4th in the lineup as the team's star. His role is to drive long deep fly balls and bring in runs via home runs, sac flies, or hits.

He gets traded to a team filled with hitters and becomes a #2 hitter. His role changes to one where he's expected to have a higher on base percentage, so THAT team's #4 brings him home. He may stop pulling the ball to the outfield and use his speed to nail some well placed shots through the infield. Thus, his stats change based on the performance expected by his role and other players' actions. If this trade happens (as they mostly do) at the end of July, the previous stats become meaningless to fans of the new team.

In terms of records and individual league leaders of any batting / pitching category, the aggregate total is still added for the end of the season, as is evident almost famously when Mark McGwire his 58 Homers in 1997 playing for both Oakland and St. Louis.

TV Sports Geek checking in to provide you with a level of granularity that non-sports-geeks dont get!

P.S. I endorse the above post about the world series being worthy of the term "world" because of the international players coming to the BEST leagues to play ball. The best of all international regions play in MLB.

TV Squad: The five best sports to watch on TV - do these hold true when HD is concered? {Engadget HD}

Jul 27th 2006 6:42PM Hockey and Soccer easily get the nods here in terms of best improvement over SD for the sport.

1) Hockey
2) Soccer
3) US Football
4) Baseball
5) Everything else except Pro Basketball

Very Last Place) Pro Basketball, because nobody wants to see Shaq's sweat stains on his shorts in HiDef.

My Comcast DVR lets me down again {Engadget HD}

Feb 20th 2006 3:51PM I have two of these boxes through Cox Cable... They're OK for what they do, but there's some serious limitations.

1 Week EPG? Come On. Data is available 2 weeks. give it to me so I dont have to schedule every sunday.

Give me some options on programming i want to save!! I decided to record opening ceremonies at the olympics in HD, and it gave me no warning that it would also wipe out like 3 other movies i had saved to watch at a later date.

Finally, if i hit pause and for some reason it stays on pause for a long period, the machine gets totally broken which causes me to have to cycle the box in order for any PVR functionality to work again.

I'm angry with TiVo with some of their business decisions and their lack of updated high quality equipment, but they sure do have probably the best interface of PVR software. I wish cableco's would faster integrate it.

TNT-HD is up on DIRECTV {Engadget HD}

Feb 18th 2006 12:22PM We've had TNT-HD on our local cable system for a couple months now... I have not seen anything that looks terrible as described in this article. Of course, half the stuff on there I'm not interested in anyway. The only thing I really am looking forward to is hopefully NASCAR will be in HD when they get coverage later in the year. Yeah, i know... its NASCAR... but come on, it's an excuse to watch a pretty picture and drink cheap beer with friends and act like a fool.

Blast from the Past: Lemonade Stand {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Feb 17th 2006 9:07AM Man, if someone did this for Quark from the Apple //c games disk, I'd be in hog heaven. Of course, I didn't actually search yet, so it might be out there. I shall do that now!!!

Chicago Auto Show: Honda drops a four-door Civic Si {Autoblog}

Feb 8th 2006 6:14PM Attach the rear wing at the ends instead of in the middle, and lower its profile.... Then change the hood to the same color instead of the faux-Carbon Fiber Look, and even if it was carbon Fiber, lets be realistic... is it REALLY going to help this car? It looks to me like an RSX, but without the horsepower or handling. Surprised Honda didn't do something with the tailpipe either. Dual Exhaust FTW!
