Rolls-Royce RR4 concept coming to Geneva '09 {Autoblog}

Aug 7th 2008 9:19PM Wyce: Glad I wasn't the only one who noticed it. Hey, Good for Rolls, if GM can't produce it, at least someone else who can should.

Cruze news: Cobalt replacement to get turbo'd 1.4-liter and 40 mpg {Autoblog}

Jul 14th 2008 9:46AM Dave, The Cruze will not be based off the Saab 9-3 platform. The Saab 9-3 platform is a shortened version of the current gen Epsilon (Malibu, G6, Aura, Vectra). The Cruze will be based off the next gen Delta platform. The current Delta platform includes: Cobalt, Astra, G5, and HHR.

GM shrinks Volt's gas tank, range drops from 600 to 360 miles {Autoblog}

Jul 8th 2008 11:28PM They cut back on the gas tank to reduce weight. They're not cutting out on the tech. This is still an electric car with a gas engine used strictly as a back-up. Not the other way around.
You guys clearly have to read and stop it with the blind GM bashing for once in your lives. Less weight means better mileage. Better mileage means less gas needed. This is a compact car.. not some large boat sedan. Simple math you guys.. but then again, this is autoblog. Most people here have some sort of ax to grind with any automobile made by an American manufacturer and common sense doesn't apply when you are trying to get your oh-so-clever quips on the board.

Anyway, I think that it's actually a good thing that GM is doing this. It takes the Volt further out of the oil dependency debate. Sure, GM promised 500-600 mpg.. but that was before gas shot up to over $4. I think spending less to fill up is more important to people right now. GM clearly had to change it's original goal to meet the desire of average drivers.
I think we should be more concerned if GM was adding a larger gas tank because they think the electric motor powering the car won't give people 40 mpg on a single charge. Clearly they're confident in the tech to do something like this.

Let the insults toward my intelligence due to my pro-GM post begin. Oh.. and before you start insulting me, I attend a good college, I don't live in the south, I live in an actual house, don't own a gun, have no desire in marrying/ having children with anyone within my gene pool, and consider myself moderate in my political beliefs.

GM to follow Ford and restructure its restructuring {Autoblog}

May 29th 2008 2:31PM Riiiight for #1. Get rid of the one guy who has pushed GM to produce its best cars and trucks in 2 decades. Makes a lot of sense to me.

GM was doing well with it's restructuring plan up until gas prices jumped over $3/gallon. Yes, GM has too many SUVs, but it already implemented a plan to reduce it's dependency on body-on-frame trucks and put more money into small and mid-size car platforms. 3 Billion dollars on the new delta platform(cobalt,HHR,astra) anyone? Remember that? That was well before things got really bad. They're already making inroads in it's cars and crossover vehicles.
Ford may be in better shape financially, but GM has better, more competitive vehicles on the road and is well on it's way to becoming a design and engineering pioneer again. That's far more important to the future of the company then what Ford has been doing lately.

REPORT: Production-trim Chevy Volt to be shown in Paris {Autoblog}

May 18th 2008 10:30PM tankd0g:

Geez tankd0g, I had no idea that GM produces the Mustang. I come to that assumption since the Camaro in Transformers was based off the last gen Pontiac GTO platform. Developed by Holden, the Australian brand of GM.

---

The Volt won't be unveiled at Paris. It wouldn't make sense since GM won't be selling as much in Europe as they will in the US and Canada. Also, a mid-size sedan (which is what the Volt will be considered to Europeans) doesn't scream fuel economy like it does to people in NA.

Reaper: Coming To Grips {TV Squad}

Apr 30th 2008 9:18AM Kevin Smith actually had nothing to do with this episode nor with any of the previous episodes. He only directed the pilot and then got credit as a consulting producer, which is basically a figure-head position. In other words, he's only involved by name only.

Buick to show Invicta concept next month in China {Autoblog}

Mar 18th 2008 3:15PM I think by retro cues means just that. Not retro design. That means there will be some bits of the design that will reference to the older Buicks and not the overall design. Especially since they said that it will be the next evolution from the Rivera concept from last year.
To give you an idea of what they might mean, The new Cadillacs have retro cues if you can believe it or not: The stacked headlights and the tail fins are the best examples. That doesn't make them retro as you can see.

Melbourne 2008: Holden Coupe 60 shocks showgoers {Autoblog}

Feb 28th 2008 10:38PM Gooch:

Actually if you remember back to January, they did just that with the Cadillac CTS coupe at the Detroit Auto Show. No one was expecting a coupe variant to show up until shortly before it was unveiled.

Let's all stop with the: "GM North America does this wrong" or "Everyone else gets better products". That's things that could only be said up until a few years ago. GM is bringing all of it's cool foreign market cars to the US so let's all quit whining about it. The automaker that should be getting the bad rap is Ford of North America.

Chrysler supposedly in talks with M&M to sell Jeep brand {Autoblog}

Feb 11th 2008 5:02PM No chance that is going to happen Evan. Our own government is hanging the American auto industry out to dry for the sake of Big Oil.

Their response to big oil making record profits due to price manipulation? Punish the automakers by increasing CAFE, knowing that the already cash-strapped American companies can barely afford to get up to 30mpg today.

They give huge tax breaks to Hyundai, Toyota, Honda, Nissan, etc.. to make sure they build their plants here and turn around and bash the American automakers who have to close American plants because they can't afford to build in the US anymore.

Republicans, Democrats.. it doesn't matter. They all have some stake in the oil companies and they'll screw everyone over to get their lobbying money.

Reaper: Cash Out {TV Squad}

Dec 5th 2007 10:14AM I did hear that there are three more episodes that were filmed.. but the last two (12 and 13) weren't written by the any of the writers of the show and that could be a problem in terms of quality of the episodes.
