Ready for the first all-HD Winter Olympics? NBC is {Engadget HD}
Nov 5th 2009 4:49PM Are they going to get rid of the sub-channels so the HD action actually looks better than a youtube video?

Fringe is in danger of being canceled?! {TV Squad}
Oct 29th 2009 2:27PM They should really move it to Tuesday - and while they are at it, why not move Dollhouse there as well. I watch no TV shows on Tuesdays (not a huge NCIS fan, nor do I enjoy watching people dance as the rest of America). I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels this way. They might be surprised at how fast both shows recover given no competition.
Sure "V" will soon be there, but you only have to fight against them for four weeks.
Live from the Microsoft Windows Media Center event {Engadget HD}
Sep 9th 2009 7:48PM Well right now I'm paying comcast for an extra reciever... so this will pay for itself over time. Plus I will also be getting rid of that ugly Moto box in the middle of my living room.
What I would REALLY love to see is Silicon Dust take a stab at a Cable Card tuner. I'm in love with my HDHomeRun, and would buy a Cable Card tuner from them right now if it was available.

Okay enough waiting, where is tru2way? {Engadget HD}
Aug 18th 2009 5:34PM First of all, I live about 2 miles from the Cable Labs HQ, and we still don't have any sort of Tru2Way here... kind of pathetic if you ask me.
As someone who never uses VOD or other 2Way features I would be happier if they would just unencrypt HD channels. Almost every TV on the market these days has a clear-qam tuner. I really don't get the reason behind forcing a dumb box on me.
I know cable companies are not the smartest, but not having a box is one of their huge advantages over sat. Why not market cable as "all the HD with none of the box".
CEDIA 2009 Windows Media Center predictions {Engadget HD}
Aug 10th 2009 12:31PM Media Center is built into most versions of Windows 7 including Home Premium and Ultimate. Starting the app will start to media center services on the machine, and allow you to configure tuners (if you have them).

Silverlight 3 out of beta, joins forces with your GPU for HD streaming {Engadget}
Jul 10th 2009 1:11AM Silverlight is based off of .Net which allows me (as a developer) to develop application using a real development language (C#). You have no idea the amount of work Microsoft has put into Silverlight and WPF to make it easy for developers. The way they have broken the workflow out to allow designers to be free from coders is also amazing.
I have been working on a Silverlight app the last few weeks, and have been continually impressed by the work Microsoft has done with the technology. Plus I get the added advantage of Mac support for free (something that as a long time Windows developer I would have never done).
Sure they may be competing with Adobe, but this is one area that Microsoft has really evolved, Silverlight is Flash on steroids.
