Could you live on online TV / Netflix alone? One gal found out. {Engadget HD}

Dec 25th 2008 6:28PM Oh good lord, going without cable isn't a hardship. We got rid of cable months ago, and have been using Netflix/Roku, AppleTV, Hulu, and over the air signal since. It's really not complicated, nor is it all that extraordinary, either. I agree with Minimalist--you save enough money for an occasional iTunes TV show or movie, and a nice 3-at-a-time Netflix subscription. Not to mention being able to buy two Roku boxes, and an AppleTV.

And that's just on two month's savings.

Why do you think cable companies and companies like AT&T are looking at broadband caps? Scared to death we won't need their Uverse et al.

Rumor: Is the Apple TV being replaced? {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Sep 27th 2008 6:21PM Yup, got an email:

"Thank you for your interest in Apple products. The Host Team members, like you, are excited to see what kinds of products Apple will release in the future; however speculation or rumors are not allowed under our terms of use (http://discussions.apple.com/help.jspa). Your recent post, titled "Big shake up regarding AppleTV? ", was speculative in nature and Apple therefore has removed it from Apple Discussions."

Rumor: Is the Apple TV being replaced? {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Sep 27th 2008 6:11PM Interesting. I posted a note to the AppleTV discussion forum, linking this site and discussion. 15 minutes later the powers that be at Apple removed the post.

This seems to give credence to something significant happening.

Exclusive: Gillmor Gang joins TechCrunch {The Jason Calacanis Weblog}

Apr 19th 2008 10:01AM Yes, Steve, let's leave confrontation at the door, because goodness knows, women have never gained anything in the past by "confronting" inequality. Asking pretty please and nicely has worked so well for us. It also works so well for the blacks, too.

Karoli, if the supposed "regulars" on this show are not regulars, and women are regulars, than it would have been nice to see the diversity. All we see now is that women aren't welcome in this discussion.

I have to ask: why weren't you in this picture, if you've been a regular on this show? Obviously you're interested in participating--why weren't you in this first show?

Regardless, lack of diversity on the show will do more to damage the show than help it and, eventually, we can only hope that this will sink in. Either women will be a part of the show on a regular basis, or the show will fail. It is as simple as that.

Apr 18th 2008 11:21PM Excuse me, 14 guys. Looks like Scoble has been added as a regular. I wouldn't want people to think that I found math hard or something...

Fourteen guys and no women regulars, Karoli. Think about it. Even Fox features women reporters.

Apr 18th 2008 11:12PM Karoli, thirteen guys are featured? There's not one woman who is worthy enough to be a regular? You don't see anything wrong with this?

I've been on Gillmor's case about this from the beginning, and I've been on Doc's case, too. Women are not "guests" online, so why the heck would they treat women as "guests" in a show supposedly representing this online environment? Especially since statistics show that there are more women involved in social media than men?

Let me repeat that: we women dominate the environment this show covers, but there are 13 men listed as regulars, and no women. And this is OK because they have women as guests on other shows? Well, gee, don't we feel special.

Perhaps, a little diversity might enliven a rather dull show, too. Maybe Arrington wouldn't get so bored.

Apr 18th 2008 6:55PM Back, and sexist as always. I've never seen a group of adult males so afraid of women as those associated with the Gillmor gang. A perfect match with Michael Arrington.
