Lenovo's rumored ThinkPad X200e gets two more spy spots, another shot of believability {Engadget}

Nov 5th 2009 6:12PM ^^^ So basically a cheaper, worse X-series. Bad idea. This kind of thing dilutes the Thinkpad brand. I'll find it hard to recommend a Thinkpad anymore without having to explain the whole situation out.

In fact that they call it "X(whatever)" right there dilutes even the X-series brand. I used to be able to tell anyone to go get an X-series, and now I can't say that anymore.

For their own sakes they better give this a different line name at least.

Nov 5th 2009 6:07PM Please tell me this is an X-series class device. That means: Magnesium Alloy and Carbon fiber, weighs less than 2.4lbs and has marginal to amazing battery life depending on which battery you use.

That white color makes me think of Apple plastic, not Thinkpad Magnesium Alloy.

Please let this be a real X-series.

Nov 5th 2009 6:04PM That thing is nasty. I mean vomit inducing.

It better come in black and what's that trackpad doing where my fingerprint reader should be?

Acer debuts 23-inch T230H multitouch monitor {Engadget}

Nov 1st 2009 11:10AM I really want to get a Dell U2410 or HP L2475W class monitor with H-IPS and all but really I think I could about $150-200 and get to try out Windows 7 multitouch support. I don't think I need the utmost in viewing angle, color accuracy etc.

Media Manager for Mac enables iPhone / iTunes media streaming to FiOS TV DVR (video) {Engadget}

Nov 1st 2009 10:52AM Okay so it doesn't work well yet. But damn the concept of this program is great. It will save us about $250 for a Popcorn Hour or something like that.

I don't have FIOS myself here, but this will create good competition.

Oct 25th 2009 11:53AM Lets be honest here. I use both Snow Leopard and Windows 7. Windows 7 actually looks better than the very sparse looking Snow Leopard thanks to Aero. Sure it may not be the greatest UI we could imagine but it does look more pleasant than Mac OSX. Also it pretty much is as easy to use as Snow Leopard in pretty much every way. UAC is much preferable to typing in your password every time an application needs administrator access. Sharing is just as easy as Snow Leopard. Windows 7 may not have the slick backup interface of Time Machine but it materially can provide the same functionality.

This OS really holds the user's hand by checking compatibility, reporting errors, trying to find your drivers, troubleshooting problems etc. Given the VAST amounts of software and hardware it is compatible with there is no way it could be as seamless as a closed system like Apple's but it really is amazing given that VAST compatibility and interoperability.

It looks like MS got their wake up call.

T-Mobile officially unveils $99 Even More, $79 Even More Plus plans and equipment installment option {Engadget}

Oct 25th 2009 11:33AM It's about time!!! Finally an honest plan without mystery subsidies and other BS like AT&T pulls with Apple to justify a $700 selling price for a phone that can never be unlocked and allowing Apple to charge $999 for an unlocked 32GB iPhone 3GS.

Those days NEED to end.

Nokia patent app reveals dreams of pressure-sensitive multitouch interface {Engadget}

Oct 25th 2009 12:42AM I know what you mean in regards to S60 which is a sad joke at best in its v5 touchscreen edition. But take a look at some N900 videos. I'm sure as with every Nokia product it will come with problems and omissions, and lack of software but I'm getting very tired of this very reliable, easy to use iPhone 3GS. It's just far too boring. Without a doubt I feel this cannot offer the headache free operation of the iPhone 3.0 OS, but it also has some great potential. If they could bring USB on the go or host functionality that actually works as expected this thing would open a whole new class of functionality to telephones.

It would be able to connect to and control an external USB drive or USB dac or straight up print to a USB printer. The OS also has a lot of potential as it is the closest to desktop linux and is not a layer on top of Linux like everyone else. We'll really have to see how it plays out in practice. All I know is that this company needs a complete philosophical renewal if it to make Maemo work. That S60 crap treatment including poor service, FW updates that reach different countries in different months/years, FW updates that break functionality, PC software that blows chunks, features on the spec list that don't really work (note to Nokia: You can't say you support VPN and then make it only work with Nokia VPN appliances, or say you support WPA2-enterprise and have nearly everyone not be able to get it to work), and just the general attitude of taking the customer for granted. It's time to get back to work again, the vacation's over.
