DirecTV on Demand becoming active for HR21 users {Engadget HD}
Feb 13th 2008 5:11PM This was my only disappointment... the lack of HD quality On-Demand content. I have Comcast On-Demand and for HD quantity, it kick's D*'s butt. I believe that there is more SD content by far on D* though.

Just Askin': If you were a newbie today... {Second Life Insider}
Jun 24th 2007 8:48AM I don't think much has changed from the perspective of newbies. It is still every bit as confusing on your rez day as it was back then, so the churn continues. I think (personally) that the UI needs major improvement. Maybe say on the order of improvement that the iPhone is bringing to the mobile phone market.

Just Askin': Do they have the obligation? {Second Life Insider}
Mar 15th 2007 12:18AM My opinion is that Linden Labs has the right to create and enforce any rules that they see fit to create or enforce. Second Life, first and foremost, is a product created by Linden Labs where users create accounts and in doing so agree to a terms of service.
Linden Labs created and enforces the terms of service. If the TOS says no "blah blah blah," then they are not by any means obligated to allow "blah blah blah."
Now, if Linden Labs were to open source the server like they have the client, then the issue becomes much much more interesting.
Think of it in those terms, and the answer is clear. Linden Labs controls Second Life. It is a benefit, and to some an unfortunate draw back.
Just Askin': Does Second Life Have a Shelf Life? {Second Life Insider}
Mar 14th 2007 12:17PM I don't know that I'd call it a shelf life as much as frustration with the user experience. There are a lot of problems with the infrastructure (not news to the Lindens) that make the software something that mostly tinkerers will like. Those are the people that don't mind the crashes and dealing with problems, they like it to some degree (AKA early adopters). Once those issues get ironed out, and there are actually useful things to do (conferences, voice, real events) then people will come, and stay.
Second Life isn't the 3D internet, as people are saying, it is the precursor. The 3D internet will be built (from scratch) based on the lessons learned from Linden Labs. What we're feeling today is the result of those lessons.
