Poll: Are you intrigued by in-home 3D technology? {Engadget HD}

Oct 4th 2008 6:46PM gah, I'm yet to be impressed by digital 3D Cinema, let alone developments for the home. Gimmicks can't make up for poor story telling.

May 5th 2008 8:23PM just buy one of the models with interchangeable bezels if silver is so important to you.

Personally, I think silver looks rubbish anyway.

JVC Victor exhibits 4k x 2k D-ILA projector at CEATEC {Engadget HD}

Oct 6th 2007 11:01AM 4K projection has been around for a couple of years already with Sony's SXRD series. I wouldn't be surprised if we heard something from Barco soon too.

Mitsubishi working on 3D Blu-ray players, displays {Engadget HD}

Aug 26th 2007 8:20PM Quite interesting in light of comments from Kodak at the recent AIMC during the Real D presentation, as they seem to think that 3D will be in homes within 4-5 years.

Having now seen both the Kodak/RealD and Dolby solutions for 3D Cinema, I personally think its a lot further off for the home than that. Even in a Cinema its still a bit 'gimmicky', the U2 3D being a great example, your eye is drawn to the waving hands in the foreground not to Bono who seems a bit distant further back in the shot.

Watching the footage without the polarised glasses resulted in little if any change to the image at all.

Jun 20th 2007 11:20PM "We say bring on the quad-split-screen HD!"

Like what you can get from the Sony SXRD 4K projectors that have been around for 18 months or so already?

Riding off into the sunset... {DV Guru}

Jan 31st 2007 8:55PM oh maing... this sucks! What am I going to read with my coffee every morning when I get to the office now?

Thanks for the great content over the last year or so i've been visiting, like other blogs in the Weblogs network I've enjoyed the writing style and most importantly the content provided. DV Guru has been great for me as I work from the prosumer end of the market all the way up to broadcast and digital cinematography and the competitive information I was able to get here was invaluable.

Thanks again, you will be missed!

'Full HD' and modes of deinterlacing {DV Guru}

Jan 31st 2007 4:43PM "Mullen concludes that a Full HD device must be capable of displaying or outputting a 1080/60p signal."

thus neatly encapsulating the whole point of the 'Full HD' branding and marketing campaign.

Sony announces its biggest Bravia: KD-70XBR3 {Engadget}

Jan 8th 2007 5:40PM Tausif, the glass for Sony & Samsung LCD panels all come from the same factory in South Korea, but that's all. After production of the base panel these are shipped off to seperate production plants for each comapny who then integrate them into their own TV products.

So, just because Sony is producing LCD panels with LED backlighting it doesn't mean Samsung will automatically do the same thing.

Sony HDR FX1 against FX7 {DV Guru}

Jan 1st 2007 5:46PM why would you put XLR inputs on a camera for the consumer market? If you want a camera with pro features like that, then you'd buy a PROFESSIONAL camera, in the case the 'sister' model, HVRV1. Not only do you get XLR inputs, but you get 25p capture!

Consumers would only get confused by the presence of XLR inputs anyway, and would most likely be put off by the cost of mics that use XLR anyway.
