TWC beefs up HD lineups in Brooklyn, Queens and Mount Vernon {Engadget HD}

Oct 7th 2008 5:37PM This is so awesome! Would love Bravo HD, Sci Fi HD and VH1 HD, but Cartoon Network (adult swim!) and FX are very welcome. If only they would have given us FX in time for the last season of the Shield :-)

Manhattan haters gotta get off the Brooklyn/Queens threads with the bellyaching. Just put down better HD cable as another reason to move to the borough of Kings! I pay the same super high rent you do, but I have four rooms, a backyard and a washer/dryer!

Nintendo Mii characters and user-generated game content (Games 2.0) {Joystiq}

Sep 28th 2006 5:24PM #5. Noone is worried that someone is going to become their own game developer or an armchair Scorcese.

Film companies are not worried that a user will become a better content provider. They are worried that you will spend all your time watching uploaded videos of high school kids lip synching to Ashlee Simpson instead of renting Netflix.

Console makers are worried about are sites like MySpace where you can spend hours and hours customizing your personal page. This is hours and hours that could be spent otherwise playing the Wii. There are so many more entertainment options these days that getting someone to engage with your product for just an hour is a miracle.

Nintendo is worrying about the new found consumer love of customization. People are going to love making creative Mii and will want other people to see them. It may seem like a really small thing to you, but it could be a hook for engagement. People love Joystiq because they can sit and post about stories they love and hate. That is the engagement console makers would like.

Gears of War should look great on your crap TV {Joystiq}

Sep 26th 2006 10:48AM I recently upgraded to a 22" widescreen monitor with VGA cable after nearly a year of playing the 360 on a 27" SDTV. I am writing to defend playing the 360 on the SDTV. The graphics are better than previous gen consoles, even on an SDTV. However, the reason I am playing Dead Rising is not for improved graphics. It is for the full next generation experience. The amount of zombies on screen is still amazing regardless of your display type.

Condemned is still terrifying on an SDTV.

The thrill of killing Nazis in Call of Duty 2 is still completely awesome on an SDTV.

Of course I am much happier playing on my Westinghouse 22" widescreen monitor, but I was not able to afford it for a while. The 360 experience on an SDTV is still absolutley great, hands down.

There is nothing wrong with wanting to play great new games if you can't afford a large flat panel display and expecting developers to support that experience.

What is the adoption rate of HDTV? It is still incredibly low, right? A consoles success in 2006 can not bet on all gamers have an HD display. Maybe in 2012, but not today.
