Jul 19th 2008 10:38AM Umm, does everyone realize that BD revenue is still down from where it was just two weeks ago? And that it's down 33% from where it was just four weeks ago?

Jul 13th 2008 10:14PM Is there any way to send just the video and skip the audio using a single cat5 cable?
I doubt it, bu t that'd be nice for a projector setup...
Ask Engadget HD: Which AV receiver has the best upscaling chip? {Engadget HD}
Jul 9th 2008 1:22PM I love my 3808ci as well -- it can also stream internet radio and you can configure it from a web browser which is quite handy.
I have the same delay issue you do though... Maybe I need to try upgrading the firmware again (I just bought it a few months ago though, and upgraded at that time). It really is an annoying bug. My old Pioneer Elite 74 automatically turned on if you selected an input from the remote - very handy - but the Denon doesn't do that.
I wouldn't buy a high-end Sony receiver... I haven't read anything about them so I don't think they're that great. They're fine on lower end though (I have a cheap $200 one I bought 8 years ago that's still running fine - but it doesn't do anything special :) )

Jul 9th 2008 10:41AM It's not piracy if you own the disk. It might be illegal (damn DMCA), it might not be, that part hasn't ever been challenged in court. But it's not piracy.

Jun 26th 2008 7:04PM "HD fans everywhere should finally have access to movies from every major studio in Hollywood for the first time ever."
Ummm, haven't we always had access to movies in HD from every major studio in Hollywood? This is the first time on one format, but the HD portion was there with HD DVD/BD ;)

Jun 25th 2008 9:25PM I would personally avoid DLP projectors due to one concern -- rainbows. While they've gotten better, and MOST people can't see them, I don't want to buy one, have friends/family over, and have them complain about rainbows (or get a headache from it). When I went to demo pjs several years ago, I couldn't see the rainbows but my friend did. That sealed the deal for me.
ESPN and NFL Network, working on a deal {Engadget HD}
Jun 21st 2008 9:17PM I actually don't watch either of those shows (or anything on FX) either. But my point is that if you go with A la carte, there will be NO new networks because nobody is going to subscribe to a network that has no programming. All you'll succeed in doing is making the current networks more powerful.
It sounds great in theory, but just won't work in practice.
(at least you didn't complain about the shopping channels like a lot of people do -- those channels actually have to pay the cable/sat companies to be shown)
ESPN and NFL Network, working on a deal {Engadget HD}
Jun 21st 2008 7:32PM A la carte sounds good in theory, but it won't work in practice. Who would pay for a new network? If there was a new network called "FX" would you pay for it? Probably not for awhile - meaning they couldn't afford programming and you'd lose out on the good shows that they've made over the years. Plus, channels with limited appeal would either be very expensive ($40/month for one channel?) or would just disappear completely.
It just doesn't work. :(
Poll: Are you replacing your DVDs with Blu-ray Discs? {Engadget HD}
May 31st 2008 4:11PM Wow, why all the venom directed at someone for expressing their OPINION? Where is he bragging about HD DVD? He DOES have what is considered by most to be the best up-converter in the market, and says that he's happy with DVDs and dirt-cheap HD DVDs. What's the problem?

May 29th 2008 1:01PM @daaper: Hmm, I wonder if I was looking at a different Sony projector when I got that 85" screen. I can't recreate it on the pj calculator.
Damn, now I have yet another pj to consider. *laugh*
