Jul 6th 2009 11:36AM This, with one of the new entry-level receivers that decodes next-gen audio - and the buyer is forever freed from the hell known as Home Theater in a Box.
Samsung's XL2370 'highest performance' 1080p monitor goes global in August {Engadget}
Jul 6th 2009 1:44AM High performance how? High specs or high picture quality? My guess is the former. Yet another TN panel for people comparing the spec sheets without considering the real-world performance.
Pioneer refreshes, lowers prices on its Elite receivers {Engadget HD}
Jul 2nd 2009 2:25AM You would bet correctly. They would grab an Elite receiver and BD player without even thinking about the price.
Poll: So how do YOU think Blu-ray is doing? {Engadget HD}
Jun 27th 2009 2:55PM More players are coming out. Prices are falling. More movies available everyday & the prices of those movies are falling. Sure, might not be happening as rapidly as some would hope, but every single day is a step in the right direction.
Panasonic Z1 wireless HDTV appearing in US retailers {Engadget HD}
Jun 26th 2009 11:33PM Problem is, it looks just like the horrible silver TV's that were all the rage a few years back. Maybe it would be OK if it was wall-mounted in a home, but in the store, it looks pretty bad.

Jun 18th 2009 9:38PM My favorite DVD movies were always the one where you hit 'CLOSE' on the tray, and the intro credits were playing before you got back to the couch. Other distractions and features are not something I want. I want the best audio and video quality, and that is it.
Only 'extras' I have EVER watched are Pixar things.
Panasonic unveils 85-inch plasma at InfoComm '09 {Engadget HD}
Jun 18th 2009 12:10PM The 103" is now $50,000. That would make the 85" $35,000 in equivalent cost (price per square inch).
However, the 85" will be easier to make, ship, service, etc., so I would guess a price closer to $25,000 would be feasible. That that point, it starts to drift into the realm of possibility for more people, and if it sells well, it will only get cheaper.
MC - it may be possible, I remember the 70" LG we sold had a rated input of 12A, but drew more like 7-8A. I bet as far as things have come (and if they skipped torch mode), it could be done on a dedicated, but standard 15A 110V household line.
