Audi likely to delay early 2009 decision on US production {Autoblog}
Dec 2nd 2008 10:23AM Hopefully (yet doubtful), this will mean the inclusion of sensible diesels throughout the range. I mean 4 cylinder, not 6 or 8 monsters that go against the purpose for many that are looking for frugal luxury cars.
Yeah, may sound odd, but I'd like a ride like the A3 or A4 avant with a small diesel in it. Will probably end up with a Subie diesel and save some cash too.
UAW considers dropping "job bank" for idled workers {Autoblog}
Dec 1st 2008 6:20PM If I remember correctly, the job bank is one of the factors that led to Chrysler's downfall.
After a year of record sales, Chrysler decided to keep producing cars that weren't being sold since they were paying workers anyway. This created a glut of inventory, and drove resale values more into the toilet.
Yet another brilliant corporate decision from the big three. ;)

NADA estimates 700 dealers will close in 2008 {Autoblog}
Oct 29th 2008 9:49AM They give them away for free to any random person walking by.

More likely though, they will be sold/transferred to other dealerships, much like when you have a car transferred in from another state with the features you want.
NADA estimates 700 dealers will close in 2008 {Autoblog}
Oct 29th 2008 9:47AM I agree. The article says it could be a problem for car makers.
Merger or not, GM, Chrysler, etc, will be better off with less standalone dealerships.
It sucks for the people running those shops, but in the long run it means less hassle and cost for the consumer. As a loose example of the benefit, think of the last time you went into a walmart or target that didn't have a food section for one-stop shopping ? ;)
Chevrolet Cruze could spawn hatch and wagon variants {Autoblog}
Oct 27th 2008 10:14AM So common sense that there are Chevy wagons all over the place....oh wait, there probably are, they just don't give them to us stateside.
Study: Small SUVs will need to keep all their goodies {Autoblog Green}
Oct 20th 2008 10:41PM It's fun reading this post back to back with the Car of the Year one promoting the Subie Forester due to it's minimalist jack-of-all-trades approach.
Give me AWD, a manual transmission, seat warmers, and diesel if I'm lucky and I'll call it a day.
The deal with half of that junk is that you don't need it so much with smaller SUVs. Folding mirrors? yeah, they're not giant when you don't have a giant SUV. Power lift gate? You can actually reach it in a smaller SUV.
Chrysler dropping AWD on Avenger, Sebring and Caliber {Autoblog}
Oct 20th 2008 10:20AM I was briefly looking into the Caliber. I was hoping that it would come with a diesel. Minus that, I was looking into a base with AWD. Not happening.
I ended up going with an Outback and will probably stick with them since they'll have a diesel AWD (6 speed manual) in a few years.
The problem with forcing buyers to add extra unwanted features just to get the one they want is that more and more buyers will just look elsewhere.
Heated seats on a GTI? That'll be an entire premium package (at least back in 06).
Chrysler deal with Getrag reportedly dead {Autoblog}
Oct 19th 2008 10:55PM They canceled the contract because they don't need the transmissions anymore. Not with their new owners that is....
If they don't sell out/get bought/whatever, their best move would be to partner with VW for diesel and DSG to leapfrog the other domestics in diesel tech. I doubt VW wants to have anything to do with Chrysler after the minivan partnership though.
Sprint delaying HTC Touch Pro by a little bit {Engadget Mobile}
Oct 17th 2008 1:27PM Why should they push it and have a few stores without inventory?
It's not like the X1 is set to release this year anymore, so the competition is off a ways....
Rats, I was looking forward to having a decision to make between the two. Now it's just trying to figure out how much longer I'll have to wait.
