World Cup causes HDTV selling frenzy {Engadget HD}

Jun 2nd 2006 1:49PM I bought my Sony 42" htdv for the world cup and fifa2006 on xbox360. ;)

R.I.P. Xbox 360 {Joystiq Xbox}

May 9th 2006 10:54AM Mine comes back from the shop this week. When it broke, It never gave any red lights, it would just freeze 10 minutes after booting up. It worked flawlessly before that. One thing that bothers me is that they didn't take back the power supply. If the problem is in there, then I still have a crashy 360.

Would you rather have your sports in stretch-o-vision or letterboxed? {Engadget HD}

Apr 7th 2006 2:05PM stretch-o-vision sucks, especially when they show a movie that's pan and scan, then stretched. It's idiotic. Most TVs will stretch 4:3 content at the push of a button so why force it on us?

HDTV Broadcast preparations for 2006 FIFA World Cup {Engadget HD}

Mar 29th 2006 7:35PM I can't wait. I've had an HDTV for months and I've yet to see a single soccer game in HD. I've seen curling though... oh and competitive eating too.

DVD up-scalers hit 100 bones with Samsungs DVD-HD860 {Engadget HD}

Mar 27th 2006 11:03AM Costco had a Toshiba upscaling DVD player for $80 back in November. It came with the HDMI cable too. It also plays divx/xvid/mpeg4 and mp3. Mine works great except slight pauses in the middle of some movies.

25 days till Super Bowl...are you ready {Engadget HD}

Jan 11th 2006 7:05PM I have everything set up for this game:
42" Sony HDTV
6.1 surround
Terk OTA antenna and cable HD pack for backup.(Austin has great OTA HDTV though)
Costco membership for beer by the case and pallets of food product. Yeah! $18 cases of Spaten! woohoo!

The Rose Bowl was my super bowl warm up and it was a total success.

Jan. 4: What's on HDTV Today {Engadget HD}

Jan 5th 2006 11:04AM I watched the game in Austin last night and it was one of the best games I've ever seen. The HD OTA signal wasn't the best though. The sound was not surround and the picture would get heavy macroblocking when the titles and graphics whooshed by on screen. Also strange was that my TV said the signal was 1080i but I thought ABC was usually 720p. Did anyone else notice this?

Condemned demo hits Marketplace {Joystiq Xbox}

Dec 29th 2005 6:17PM I tried it last night for a little while (until I got stuck). The graphics and sound are pretty good. It's what you'd expect from Monolith, and there are definite similarities to F.E.A.R. This is definitely the most original demo in the marketplace right now.

One unique thing about the game is the forensics tools. You have to use a special light and laser to "discover" a victims trauma point and other evidence at the crime scene. Once you get this bizarre step out of the way you proceed to killing homeless people who are addicted to some mystery drug. A strange concept for a game but it's original.

I gather this game is a horror FPS for adults only. I'll definitely give it another try but I'm not sure I'm ready to buy. F.E.A.R. was a much quicker sell for me, I liked it as soon as a I started playing it. YMMV

Manufacturers gearing up for the World Cup {Engadget HD}

Dec 27th 2005 10:59AM The US team reached the quarter finals during the last World Cup. The tournament started with almost 200 teams so I don't think that qualifies as a butt kicking.

On a side note, I recently bought my HDTV in anticipation of this tournament when I heard all games would be broadcast in HD this year.
