Sony's PFR-V1 headset rated "very good" despite impracticability {Engadget}

Apr 16th 2008 7:00AM What does "not unsurprisingly" mean? Is 6:00am the wrong time to try untangling that?

Pioneer officially ends in-house plasma production, Kuro LCDs coming soon {Engadget}

Mar 7th 2008 3:18AM This presumably means that the concept Kuro that was originally slated for early 2009 - the one which was 100% black while on in a fully dark room - will never be sold. Sooo... hum. Guess I'll stick with my Fujitsu after all.

HD DVD's last hurrah: Terminator 2: Ultimate HD-Edition due March 20 {Engadget HD}

Feb 29th 2008 1:48AM I thank you for the correction. It's good to see that they did finally move the HD-DVD's data over to a Blu-ray disc and let Amazon know about it.

Also, don't let this Terminator 2 HD-DVD information ruffle your feathers, chief. It makes you look a bit like a child.

HD DVD's last hurrah: Terminator 2: Ultimate HD-Edition due March 20 {Engadget HD}

Feb 28th 2008 6:21PM For me, HD-DVD's "last hurrah" will be Twister, which is just about on par with T2 for being a showpiece movie. It comes out in late May. Assuming it still happens. No Blu-ray release of Twister is in sight, and Twister is one of my all time favorites.

Michael Bay's format war conspiracy theory: it's a Microsoft fix {Engadget HD}

Dec 4th 2007 11:31PM Settle for second best? Friend, you try, just _try_ to tell me that 300 is "second best" on HD-DVD, or that Harry Potter 5 is also going to be "second best" with its unique offerings, OR that most Blu-ray movies are on larger-capacity discs (you might be embarrassed by the reality here), OR that HD-DVD has a pitiful 50% library encoded in an outdated codec that can only make especially forgiving movies (Crank) look good.

That, my friend, is the essence of second best.

European Blu-ray Chairman calls HD DVD Group's actions "unbelievable" {Engadget}

Nov 13th 2007 4:01PM This joker was just asking for trouble when he decided that the best counter to the data was to pretend to be a victim of some sort of fraud. Basically what he is saying is that it's not fair to count the PS3 as a Bluray player when discussing media sales. I probably don't have to be the one to tell him that he can't have it both ways. It's a movie player or it isn't. He can't adjust the preference to fit two different criteria.

SlySoft's latest AnyDVD beta cracks BD+ {Engadget}

Nov 8th 2007 3:50AM Credibility, meet the window. Goodbye. That's what happens when somebody says "I don't care about PIP". That is reaching. Specifically singling out a feature which their format of choice not only failed to provide while the competition did, but whose implementation is stigmatized by the fact that there will always be people who can't use it, which will cause studios to think twice about adding such features. Rather petty, and more to the point it undermines any legitimacy your arguments may once have carried.

SlySoft claims to have cracked BD+, naysayers fall quiet {Engadget}

Oct 30th 2007 6:50AM Don't fret. The BD folks have BD++ in the pipeline. It's part of Profile 3.0.

Guaranteed to involve no more than 75% hardware replacement, and no longer than four weeks of firmware delays.
