Supposed MacBook Pro redesign, meet Mr. BlurryiPhonecam {Engadget}

Sep 25th 2008 4:05PM I like the idea of having some sort of 'soft buttons' like the Optimus Prime keyboard, but using a touchpad instead of the physical OLED buttons... I can't work out how one would actually use a dock in the trackpad without triggering apps all the time by mistake (unless it's a multitouch finger combo to bring it up).

I would much rather have had a couple of rows of programmable soft buttons, using touch display tech from iPod/iPhone, and put them down the sides beside the keyboard, or put a top row of keys where the function keys exist on PC's... you could do some seriously cool stuff with that.

Archos 5 Internet Media Tablet is now up for grabs {Engadget}

Sep 6th 2008 11:48PM Then there's something wrong with your A3. Mine regularly lasts 8-10hrs (depending on brightness settings). I travel between LA and London every 2-3 months, and I'd be well f**ked without my A3.

Sep 6th 2008 8:34PM A3 was a better choice anyway... 10hrs of video on a single charge - no other PMP can touch it.

Dec 28th 2007 1:33AM "Why are you all acting like ANY of the same codecs, programs, computers, or even electrical standards are going to be around in 40 years? Much less your hard drives, which I doubt will even function properly at that point. Plus, all of your movies will probably be re-released onto some other format (probably not even digital) that you'll have to buy all over again."

This may be true, however I know that as my equipment improves, and we move to quantum storage and new processor models and all that kind of crap -- I know that I have chosen to store my music in a form to which I have the full source code for compression and decompression (FLAC).
So - no matter how things develop, I will always be able to convert my music from it's current form into whatever comes next

Indian villagers walk a dozen miles to charge cellphones {Engadget}

Dec 23rd 2007 10:30PM I wonder why Nokia has never released a phone for developing markets?
I picked up 3 x wind-up LED flashlights at Home Depot last night... 30 seconds winding produces 30 minutes of light. How hard would it be to shove the same mechanism on a phone?
Heh... infact, you could attach it to an old rotary dial, so you'd have a retro look AND never need to charge it ;)

Oct 19th 2007 1:36PM If they add a HDD to it (even a 60Gb one), add it so that I can browse my music by Album Artist, and ensure that it's network unlocked - I don't really care if it's a copy... I'll be in for one of those!
