Big in Japan: Tokyo's top cherry blossom spots {Gadling}
Mar 28th 2008 11:42AM Was at Ueno koen today, around 5pm, but by that time it had gotten a little too windy and cold, and by the time I was heading home around 6 a few sparse rain drops were falling. Spectacular scenery and people to talk with however, look forward to the next few weeks as I'm less than 20mins away from Ueno park.
Big in Japan: Deadly dumplings injure 175 {Gadling}
Feb 5th 2008 5:02AM As a student that's been living in Tokyo for a while, I wish people had a greater understanding of what this is all about... First of all, those familiar with Japanese policy-making in any area, they are still highly nationalistic-thinking, they make fun of the other guy to draw attention away from their own problems... Japanese-made dumpling were subject to just as much pesticides as the Chinese import. This is highly relatable to Japan's beef markets. They restrict cattle from the States because of the single Mad Cow positive a few years ago, yet Japanese beef is far more contaminated on the whole. Just look at their history, Minamata disease, etc etc... the list goes on. Not saying the others are faultless, but rather Japan simply puts the magnifying glass anywhere besides themselves.
Costco in Asia is so much cooler {Slashfood}
Jan 31st 2008 9:18AM You know what's great about the Costco here in Tokyo (ok... Kanazawa and Chiba.. but same thing), CAKE AND PIE!! They have lots of it here in Tokyo, I admit, there are little home-style bakeries on every corner it seems, but it's just so rotten expensive for a slice of heaven. Costco supplies full cakes and pumpkin pies, amazing. (No I can't bake a pie myself, ovens do not exist for 99% of Tokyo residents, but there is such thing as rice-cooker banana bread: amazing as well)
KDDI touts speedy upgrade to IR transfer technology {Engadget}
Jan 29th 2008 1:32PM The world is missing out on IR, quite simply. I've been living in tokyo for about 6 months now, and you know what the greatest part about my Japanese cell phone is? IR.
Phone sex, as everyone calls it, allows you to trade profiles (phone number, email, ketai mail, pic, then a whole bunch of useless crap like horroscope sign etc... but also has GPS of location...). So out of TV tuners, 5mp cameras, I still say IR is best function missing back in the states.
