Roku reveals first Netflix set-top-box, reviews flow in {Engadget HD}

May 20th 2008 12:47PM I got the impression that Netflix was looking to expand on many devices, according to statements they made earlier in the year.

It's been long rumored their service will appear on game consoles, such as the Xbox 360 and PS3.

Sony sells 9 million PS3s, sets bar (slightly) higher for '08 {Joystiq}

May 14th 2008 8:02PM Yikes, I was just looking at the company financials for Sony. As a whole, they posted a 4.7 billion dollar loss between January and March this year.

Sony sells 9 million PS3s, sets bar (slightly) higher for '08 {Joystiq}

May 14th 2008 7:13PM Sony sold something like 100 million+ PS2s, so I'm not surprised the PS3 would sell a good number of units on momentum alone. It's just a matter of enticing that existing base. The only thing holding back the masses has been pricing. There's no doubt in my mind that if the PS3 were cheaper, it would have totally dominated out of the gate.

Apr 2nd 2008 3:11PM TVs are one of those things that if it's not broke, why replace it? Most people have TVs at least 10 years, and it's not uncommon to go far longer.

It's like a car. Just because a new model is introduced every year, doesn't mean you have to buy one.

HD DVD and Blu-ray releases on March 18th, 2008 {Engadget HD}

Mar 19th 2008 5:28PM I noticed on the commercials for I Am Legend, they clearly show the HD DVD box along with DVD and Blu-Ray versions, however the voice over makes no mention of HD DVD. I wasn't sure if it was coming out on HD DVD or not.

Nielsen VideoScan High-Def market share for week ending February 24th, 2008 {Engadget HD}

Feb 29th 2008 6:24PM That's interesting that DVD isn't done here, yet it's mentioned in the article when it comes to discussing how well HD DVD did vs Blu-Ray.

Ask Engadget HD: Is it finally safe to buy a Blu-ray player? {Engadget HD}

Feb 13th 2008 7:23PM I say not yet, because of the various profiles. Who wants to buy a profile 1.1 player only to later learn than cannot use profile 2.0 features?

And also because the pricing is not there yet. Stand alone players should be around $150-200.

I wouldn't consider the PS3, becuase the remote is bluetooth instead of IR, meaning I can't use by existing universal remote.
