Yet another batch of Home invites go out {PS3 Fanboy}
Nov 26th 2008 7:18PM Nice avatar in that demo. I'd hit it :-)
Xbox 360 outsells the original Xbox, Microsoft heads down to the trophy shop {Engadget}
Nov 25th 2008 1:00PM M$ may be the big evil corporation in a lot of ways, but I gotta give 'em big props on this one. The 360 is hands-down the best console ever made, and an extremely good value. Sure the RROD issue was inexcusable, but they took care of it at a huge expense to themselves. And they are doing things to continue the goodwill, such as releasing NXE, and that was WELL above the call. NXE rocks, and it's almost like having a new console, for free. Avatars, parties, Netflix streaming... nicely done! And the available games... amazing!
I feel well taken care of by Microsoft on this purchase.
Windows Mobile 6.5 screenshots have a little Zune in 'em {Engadget}
Nov 12th 2008 2:03PM Fake. Sorry to say, but I'm pretty sure it's true. First, the Apple icons. Second, would MS really implement this big of a UI change in an update called 6.5?? No, this would be a full point release if not a name change entirely (like XP --> Vista). Third, the menus in the left screenshot don't make sense. There are several app names listed (facebook, dodge ball) along with "Cloudy 56 deg". Seems poorly thought out.
Debunk: Xbox 360 streams HD Netflix over component just fine {Engadget HD}
Oct 31st 2008 11:05AM I have a projection home theater with a 1080p Epson projector on a 106" screen. My 360 is an older one with only VGA and component. At 1080p output, VGA looks noticeably sharper than component. In fact, an HD-DVD over VGA looks just as good as a Blu-Ray over HDMI from my PS3. So VGA is a very workable solution provided you have that input on your television.
Companies planning massive electric vehicle charging network for Australia {Engadget}
Oct 24th 2008 4:18PM This should work good for people who spend most of their driving time in town. But Aussies who do any traveling out of down better have a gasoline vehicle available as well, because Aussie towns often have HUGE distances separating them, and no battery operated vehicle is going to last long enough for that.
Intel: ARM's the reason the iPhone... sucks? {Engadget}
Oct 22nd 2008 12:59PM The iPhone's processor is not slow. There IS lag from time to time, but I chalk that up to OS and memory usage optimization, which I expect they will improve all the time.
Look, I can open up large scanned PDF sheets on my iPhone and they render surprisingly quick for a phone. I know the processor can crank.
Microsoft SideSight project promises to take multi-touch beyond the screen {Engadget}
Oct 21st 2008 7:14PM Maybe it's just me, but I'd feel a little self-conscious setting my phone on a table at Starbucks and waving my hands around it without actually touching it.
Kind of like the very first guy who walked around a supermarket talking on a bluetooth earpiece.
Sprint's CSR response time skyrockets to first in recent survey {Engadget Mobile}
Oct 20th 2008 6:11PM Heh... the only reason this improvement happened is because they haven't laid off CS reps as fast as they've lost subscribers!
BlackBerry Storm in action, ad nauseam {Engadget Mobile}
Oct 20th 2008 12:27PM My iPhone also makes a clicking sound when I type, except that I turned it off.
I dunno... it's a good phone no doubt, and I'm anxious to try one just for kicks. But I only see a few ways in which the click screen has advantages over the iPhone, and it's not while typing. The only way it helps is to avoid clicking a link by mistake while scrolling. Otherwise, I think the click screen just slows things down because you have to press deliberately rather than just lightly tap.
Ask Engadget HD: What's the best remote for Sony's PlayStation 3? {Engadget HD}
Oct 8th 2008 1:59PM Nyko + Monster AVL 300 Harmony Remote in my custom projection home theater. Works like a charm. This allowed me to use a PS3 as my Blu Ray player in a very dark room where the standard non-backlit PS3 remote just wouldn't cut it. Only a few downsides: the Nyko can't turn the PS3 on or off; and I have a problem where cursoring left/right on the Monster causes multiple clicks to be read on the PS3. I'm sure if I muck around with timings on the Harmony, I could fix it.
