Engadget HD CES schwag giveaway: Blu-ray discs and more {Engadget HD}

Jan 19th 2009 5:08PM Pick just one CES story? I like reading about anything new. And well, um giveaways too.

Joyswag: PlayStation 3 (40GB) {Joystiq}

Jun 16th 2008 2:06PM I'd say Best Buy and GameStop are my locations of choice for new games or hardware.

Big Brother 9: live feeds report - Feb.14 {TV Squad}

Feb 14th 2008 12:47PM I watched last night and thought to myself, this may be the worst season to date.

Like mentioned elsewhere, it's more Real World than Big Brother.

Giveaway Monday: The Smurfs season one, volume one {TV Squad}

Feb 11th 2008 6:39PM That would have to be Smurfette

Best Buy's pushing Blu-ray to the front {Engadget HD}

Feb 11th 2008 5:29PM There's a difference between lowering cost to survive and lowering your cost to be affordable to the masses. At $399 or more I think Blu-Ray is on the fringe.

The original PS2 was $299 when many DVD players at the time were $500+. Within 2 years, it was $199, and many stand alone players followed suit to the same level of pricing.

What I'm saying is, is that if prices were lower, I think you'll have mainstream sales. Right now Blu-Rays biggest competitor is DVD.

Best Buy's pushing Blu-ray to the front {Engadget HD}

Feb 11th 2008 4:44PM If I'm not mistaken, about a week ago NPD said that 7 out of 10 people who have HDTVs said they were content with DVD.

People still have to be convinced to get a high definition player. I'm thinking the players need to come down to a more mainstream price (sub $200), and it wouldn't hurt if the titles themselves were cheaper.

Warner goes Blu-ray exclusive {Engadget HD}

Jan 4th 2008 3:54PM I'm fairly certain this is not what I want, as I don't own a Blu-Ray player. Guess they want to force us to get one though, which I kinda resent.

Well, I won't be buying Warner titles anymore

Console showdown: which produces the most noise? {Engadget}

Jan 15th 2007 7:10PM Caught this on Digg yesterday, so I'm not surprised to see it here. This kind of article should appear on the blogs for further discussion in my opinion.

Although not admitted by some, the Wii does make noise under certain conditions. It's noticable when certain games are played, or when first loading a disc, or if the console is not properly in the base.

The PS3 makes some noise too, but it's not initially apparent, as the noise level builds after the system has been on a while, mostly due to the fans.

I don't think anyone disagrees the 360 makes noise. Although when not playing a disc game, the 360 does become quieter. It's noticably quieter when playing a movie, or game off the HD or memory unit. Of all the systems, this is the one console that could certainly use a quieter disc drive.

Logitech Harmony Xbox 360 remote reviewed {Joystiq Xbox}

Jan 19th 2006 6:53PM I have two Harmony remotes that I received for Christmas, one being the highest end and the other being the lowest end. Each took between an hour to 2 hours to program. And that's just to achieve basic functionality. I was totally unimpressed with the major functions being buried under mounds of menus. Granted, I'm sure if I continue to program the control it'll make it easier, but I just wanted to say that there's a major time commitment with these units. It's not simply plug into your computer, tell the system what components you have, and you're done. There's a lot of customization. And the interface (using JAVA) is the slowest I've ever used.

PSP outsells DS in US by 1 million {Joystiq}

Jan 19th 2006 6:46PM "Americans seemingly care more about multi-functionality while the Japanese appreciate a large selection of both proven and experimental games"

This would mean the Revolution is doomed.
