Sony aiming for sub-$200 Blu-ray PC reader in early 2008 {Engadget HD}

Oct 12th 2007 9:08AM I own both BDPS300 (Blu-Ray) and HD-AX2 (HDDVD) both using high end Nordost HDMI cable hooked-up the a Pioneer PRO-110FD and the toshiba player beats Sony hands down on picture quality. And Yes, I have compared several movies! I don't care who wins the war, I just want quality products. Sony always over promises and come short of delivering what they promise....Can we really expect a decent sub 200$ player or will it be a crappy player capable of loading a blu-ray disc?

For all fanboys out there, do your homework before replying!

European Commission looks into Blu-ray studio agreements {Engadget HD}

Jul 4th 2007 2:31PM Instead of arguing about the format, let's look at the history of a company like Sony and how they seem incapable having their new child reaching puberty

Beta vs VHS
Mini Disc
Memory Stick vs SD card
PSP
and not look at the PS3 big flop....

etc

I'm not a FANBOY and sure not an idiot to backup a company that dared to release HD movies in MPEG 2. That's just not right!

Sony is so busy with the DRM and their exclusive rights that they forgot about the customer.

In the meantime that the war is waged, I bought a HD-DVD player (much cheaper than BLU-ray) and I rent HD movies online.
At the end, Sony

Paramount's Mission: Impossible III HD DVD-bound, with HD special features {Engadget HD}

Aug 10th 2006 10:05PM (Try and keep your arguments civilised and constructive...oh yeah, and learn to understand when someone is joking!)

Let me first apologize if I came across either agressive or non-constructive. I just feel that I'm reading a lot from BLUE-RAY Fanboys and they have nothing really to say but, what if..., wait...it's coming!

To answer your question if I'll support HD-DVD till the end. The answer is NO. Although I hate Sony and it's proprietary strategies, I am one of those enthusiast that will dish out any amount required to acquire the best picture and sound quality (I guess within my budget)

I wouldn't blink an eye to acquire for example a SED TV even if I had to dish out 7000-10000$ since it appears that they have mixed the quality of tube tv's and the sleek thin frames of the FDPs.

Time will tell which format will survive! My only hope is that they don't repeat the outcome of the SACD/DVD-Audio...That was sad, I had purchased a lot of those disc.

Once again, sorry to have offended you. I just wanted to make the current specs clear for every un-informed BRD fans out there that just shout down HD-DVD.

Aug 8th 2006 10:49PM Ignorance is bliss, BLUE RAY is such an inferior technology MPEG2 codec...please..how old is that codec...not to mention the fact that you have to be a real sucker to buy a player twice the price of HD-DVD, less picture quality (even with its larger capacity, which BTW has yet to be produced).

Oh ya, the cost of converting any production line flirts with 1-2 milllion dollars and will be limited to single layer disc while HD-DVD will cost roughly 250000 thousand dollars to convert.

Well, I guess Sony didn't learn from their past experiences i.e. Betamax, SACD, Mini-Disc, etc

I suggest you do your home work before you open your mouth. I don't care about who release what, but rather which one offer me the greatest quality of picture and sound!

>>> Did you hear about TRUE HD 5.1 sound codec? ;-)

I know, I know, I'm beating a dead dog!!!!!

Netflix CEO sees HD DVD and Blu-ray war "maintaining stalemate" {Engadget HD}

Jul 25th 2006 11:27PM Let's not forget that BLUE RAY is using MPEG 2 :-( while HD DVD is using VC1 a loss less codec producing a much better picture. Even if BLUE RAY would use all it space capacity, it simply couldn't match the quality of HD DVD. Don't take my word for it, listen to the interview given by JOE KANE in UK about HDTV and HD DVD/BLUE RAY

FYI: JOE KANE is known around the world as an expert in picture quality!!!!!!
