Samsung issues v2.3 firmware update for BD-P2500 / BD-P2550 Blu-ray players {Engadget HD}

Jan 6th 2009 3:23PM It has only been a few days since Samsung made available firmware V2.3, and for anyone who downloaded it and found problems with it. The good news is today V2.4 is already available. I turned on my BD-P2500 this afternoon and was given notice that new firmware was availbale. The really good news is that this upgrade adds the DTS-HD HRA/MA feature we have been waiting for.

Other then having to do a complete Setup after upgrading the firmware, all the problems one may have had with V2.3, everything is working fine. I turned On film mode 24fps and it is working, where as in V2.3, I had a sync problem with the video.

All I can say is the combination of Samsung's new Touch of Color TV's (I have a 40inch 630) and the 2500 series Blu-ray player, everything you watch is great. When I checked out Netflix and started a movie in HD, the picture was as good as a Blue-ray dice.

Samsung issues v2.3 firmware update for BD-P2500 / BD-P2550 Blu-ray players {Engadget HD}

Jan 2nd 2009 1:35AM After watching a movie on my BD-P2500 tonight, a pop-up letting me know that new firmware was available. The new V2.3 firmware downloaded and was installed in about 15 minutes.

As with any new firmware upgrade, Setup needs to be run again, including setting up your video, sound and network connection. Because the BD-P2500 requires a manual setup of the network connection, you need to know what to enter so you can get connected again.

A few weeks ago, I downloaded V2.1 and have had no problems. Can view HD content and it looks great. V2.3, its another story. I connected to Netflix, selected a movie in my queue and the sound was ok, but the video was out of sync. Rechecked setup and tried it again, same problem. Went back to setup, viewing 1080p normal, but changed 24 frame to OFF. I do not know if this is a bug in the software, but it is now working. Also in setting the time, it is not saving what you enter.

I do not know what additional features this update offered, and would not recommend doing it and having to deal with setting everything up again.
