NASA's HD Earth Day celebration {Engadget HD}
Apr 21st 2008 2:25AM There is no such thing as a NASA channel that broadcast in HD. This story doesnt mention it will be downrezzed to SD.

Nov 11th 2007 10:27PM Do the reruns of Planet Earth tonight on Discovery Channel HD look less dynamic than when it was on Discovery HD Theater? Or is it just me?
It looks like a little nicer than an uprez but not as nice as before.

HD DVD and Blu-ray releases on July 31st, 2007 {Engadget HD}
Jul 30th 2007 4:08PM I heard the encoding quality wasnt optimal on the UK Blue Planet, with some gradients looking even better on the US Discovery broadcasts (!)
Anyone know of an early review that might give a clue as to the encode quality on this US version?

Cox to add National Geographic HD {Engadget HD}
Jul 19th 2007 3:14PM I'm going to second a negative on National Geographic HD
Dish offers it as a premium channel but had it in free preview mode for several days. I watched on a very good CRT HDTV from the Sony XBR series. I thought the programs were not as nice In visual or content quality as either Discovery Theater HD or Voom's Equator HD.
This may have changed since then, but I wouldnt know.
And in general, even their SD channel has a "cheap/taboid" feel to it that does not reflect the value of the National Geographic Magazine.

Dish Network intros ViP222 multiroom HD receiver {Engadget HD}
Jun 10th 2007 12:46PM Dish/Voom have some interesting stuff. Its amazing how many people complain when mainstream banal TV is all that is on and the moment someone presents something quirky and unusual it gets trash talked.
Look at the difference between Voom's Equator channel and the HD National Geographic channel. NG looks like an immature tabloid version of a nature/science channel in comparison.
Fact is, with all of the fantasies and promises out there of programming, Dish is still the leader in quality and quantity. There are improvements to be made for sure, but dissing the Voom channels is silly.
