IGN: Do Gamers really need HDTV? {Engadget HD}

May 15th 2006 4:36PM If you had a PC that would play games at 1200p on a sub $1000 23" LCD display would you even dream of playing a console? 1 year from now most PC's will be able to play games at very high res with full eye candy and with the ease at which one can hook PC to a tv..... 720p on an xbox looks like crap on my 37" LCD compared to my HTPC pixel mapped.

So called technology experts {Engadget HD}

May 5th 2006 9:21AM I agree 100%. The other aspect of this is that they seem to be against the new formats..... Personally I hate the format war but I love that I'll be able to get my movies in HDTV. How can you love tech and HT and not want one of these things.

Also, I think they miss the target audience alot. I think a lot of people can afford to be early adoptors. Maybe they dont make enough money to buy a $700 player but for those of us that can and have $20K into a home theatre its a no brainer to be an early adopter.

I think Leo and Devorak are the only guys on the podcast that actually have HDTV's....... They should just keep their comments to computers....

Got 1080p? Do you even need it? {Engadget HD}

Apr 18th 2006 10:23AM My thoughts on 1080p:

First, why not?

Codec's: As we move away from 1970's codec's, there should be no issue getting 1080p over sat and the new optical formats can easily fit many hours of 1080p programming at very high bit rate. HD-DVD and BR are massive overkill IMHO (ever seen WMV-HD discs?)

Displays: You can see the progression, most displays will be 1080p by next year.

Size: Those of us with large displays (yes your 55" TV is 1/4 the size of mine) are looking forward to a much more detailed picture.

HDTV ambiguity from Business Week {Engadget HD}

Jan 13th 2006 9:31AM Maybe he knows more than you give hime credit for. A $650 CRT display likely wont have the spot beam size to actually resolve that resolution... My 30" Toshiba HD-CRT could not come close to resolving 720p. Who am I kidding, he likely cant find his a$$ with both hands....

Pioneer's Elite PureVision PRO-FHD1 at 1080p {Engadget HD}

Jan 13th 2006 9:31AM 102" is 4 x the size of 50", not 2 x

Cheap medicine AND 31 HD channels? I'm moving to Canada {Engadget HD}

Dec 9th 2005 4:13PM No, he would've said "Take off, eh...hoser" ;-) Actually our HDTV sucks for the most part. I've never seen a shot in HD on Discovery HD. Soon it'll be replaced with Discovery HD Theater though.... Seems Americans have stereotypes about us just like we think they're all gun toting patriots. Oh well, back to my beer drinking ;-)

Bruce doesn't like Belkins new "cables" {Engadget HD}

Dec 7th 2005 3:11PM I'm not much of a "cable" guy but you cant take this kind of review seriously at all. I'd bet dollars to donuts that his display isnt even calibrated properly and the he performed no measurements whatsoever... Wes
